Pennsylvania Section 8 Housing.

Find who to contact to apply for the Pennsylvania Section 8 Housing program. This housing choice voucher assistance program can provide low income, the working poor, unemployed, disabled and elderly with income based rental units. Call a public housing agency near you listed below or social service office in Pennsylvania to apply for help from Section 8.

The state of Pennsylvania as well as the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) provides rental assistance to qualified low-income families in the form of income based homes. Funds can be used to pay housing expenses for homes or apartments in the private rental market as well. Based on the local PHA, there may be a waiting list in place, but many cities and counties will offer emergency section 8 housing vouchers to qualified residents.

The demand is high and there are various requirements to getting a section 8 housing voucher in Pennsylvania. The Housing Choice Voucher Program is run locally by housing authorities in your town or county, however it is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Low income families can apply online or at an office near them. Applicants need to meet qualifications, including low income standards.

It is not a free service. Participants will still need to pay about 30-percent of their total household income for their rent as well as monthly utility bills. People are allowed to search for and find their own home or apartment to live in and many landlords offer section 8 units for lease. in addition, case management as well as family self sufficiency (FSS) is often mandatory as well. Your local public housing authority (PHA) in Pennsylvania will pay a portion of the rent directly to the landlord, and you need to apply there as well.
