Housing assistance programs across Schuylkill County range from emergency rental or security deposit assistance to homeless shelters, free legal aid to stop evictions, and section 8 HUD vouchers as a form of rent subsidy. These are other resources are offered from charities, churches, and government agencies.

Any homeless prevention and/or welfare grants for paying rent come with other conditions that need to be met. This is all part of the statewide Emergency Shelter Allowance, ESA, which offers mortgage, energy bills, rent, and security deposit grants.

Lawyers give free legal help to low income families facing eviction. They can provide assistance with predatory loans, help try to get security deposits back, and help with housing issues.

Salvation Army Family Services
The centers are at Pottsville Corps (400 Sanderson Street, Pottsville, PA 17901 call 622-5252) or Tamaqua Corps (dial 668-0410). Everything from emergency rent to food, shelter, meals, holiday help and more is available. The rent and financial aid is limited, based on donations.
