Get information on the leading charities, churches, and government agencies to call in Erie County Pennsylvania for rent assistance, shelter, and transitional housing. These non-profit agencies and government supported programs offer a wide variety of housing resources as well as emergency or long term rental programs for tenants. Some resources can help people pay their back rent, and other agencies offer information as well as referrals. Programs focus on the unemployed, working poor, and low income families.

If you are facing an eviction or need emergency rental assistance, then these organizations may be able to provide help. Cash, grants and funding may be available. The money can be used for expenses such as access to housing, security deposits, and eviction prevention services.

Case managers can also help people locate affordable low income housing if they need to move. Or get information on other services such as section 8 housing vouchers from HUD. All of the Erie County Pennsylvania organizations are committed to helping families of all backgrounds deal with a housing crisis that they may be facing.

Individuals who meet certain criteria can access help in the form of referrals to rent programs, mental health treatment, and other housing resources. Homeless Case Management is a big component of what they offer.

Shelter Plus Care partners with and is funded by the federal government Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Clients of Shelter Plus Care provide qualified low income individuals and families with a government funded housing subsidy or rental voucher. Individuals will need to participate in various social service programs, including mental health or drug/alcohol rehab if appropriate. The goal of the HUD sponsored program is to assist participants in achieving stability in housing, provide vouchers for paying rent (including section 8), and help people increase their income.

Greater Erie Community Action Committee (GECAC) – The leading non-profit and source of information for the entire Erie County region. The agency administers a number of services and resources for the low income as well as people faced with poverty. Among them include home support, short term transitional housing assistance, heating bill assistance, and funds for paying rent if someone is faced with a crisis/eviction. St. Martin Center, Inc. - Regardless of someone’s race or religion, you can get help on the path of self-reliance. The unemployed and underemployed of Erie County in Pennsylvania can apply for immediate assistance and long-term services, including rent and housing. Call (814) 452-6113.

Erie Veterans Affairs Medical Center helps veterans only. Whether shelter, information on rent assistance programs, loans, grants, medical care and other veteran support. They also direct clients to federal government veteran benefits around housing from the office at 135 East 38th Street, Erie, PA 16504. Project Hope Outreach Services, Erie United Methodist Alliance is at 249 East 8th Street, Erie, Pennsylvania 16503, call 814-456-5670.  Currently homeless can receive financial aid from the charity. For example, receive assistance in locating and finding low income housing. Clients can also work with a social worker in locating support services and appropriate housing and security deposit assistance.

Saint Martin Center – Emergency assistance may be offered by this charity organization. Most support is for items such as food or prescriptions, but they may offer housing/rent help. Erie Dawn offers a program known as Dwellings & Advocacy for Women in Need. It is run by the charity Benedictine Sisters, Sisters of Mercy and also the Sisters of St. Joseph. Services can help women in domestic violence or addictions. Housing support may be included, including for single moms.

Housing Authority of Erie processes applications for Section 8 HUD vouchers. They also offer self-sufficiency, counseling, and other support to existing clients. Erie County Assistance Office operates ESA - Emergency shelter allowance. It helps the homeless and those near it. Emergency funds or interest free loans can assist with rental expenses. Saint Paul’s Catholic Church mostly has basic needs, such as furniture or food.
