Energy and utility bill assistance

Some of the components of this program offered by the agency include:

  • Appliance Replacement Program
    Eligible households will receive an overall appliance assessment. A professional will perform the  assessment which will determine which appliances are causing higher energy bills, and they will recommend ways to save money.





  • Crisis Program
    Grants and funds are available for assistance with electric, propane bills, and natural gas. People need to apply and be found to be qualified.
  • Elderly/Disabled Program
    For disabled as well as seniors who are 60 years plus, and for disabled individuals who are over 18 years of age. Loans, conservation, and other support is offered. A rating system and also a household scoring system will be used determine the amount of assistance and cash grants that are provided to help with natural gas, electric, or propane bills for the program year.   • Co-Pay Program
    If you are found to be qualified, and you need to be employed to be qualified, you can get assistance which may include energy efficiency guidelines, referrals and education on budgeting, and other direct assistance for electric bills.
  • Case Management

Montgomery County Emergency Assistance, Inc., which is located in Conroe, offers numerous assistance programs. The organization provides rent and mortgage assistance as funds are available. Money may also be used for utility bills. The county also provides a voucher for a new prescription, as well as run a food pantry. Conroe Salvation Army - Social services are offered, including rent and mortgage assistance, utility, electric, and water bill assistance, and emergency food to qualified individuals. Call (936) 760-2440. there are many other resources available, and find help with rent from assistance programs.

The Salvation Army may also be able to provide services to the entire Montgomery County region. The non-profit will also try to meet more basic needs as well, which can include free food, clothing closet, school supplies and a big focus is on Thanksgiving and Christmas assistance. Churches that are part of Catholic Charities operate in Montgomery County. Most of the support they provide is non-financial, and can include food, case management and legal aid. Social workers can advise immigrants and seniors in the region. Society of Samaritans – The non-profit provides qualified residents of Montgomery County with used or new clothing, utility bill assistance, and furniture for a new home or apartment. Also offers prescription payment assistance to the low income, elderly and disabled in the community. Lone Star Legal Aid offers free help and advice. Attorneys can assist with everything from preventing evictions and utility shut offs to addressing consumer debt issues and foreclosures. Texas Inter-Faith Housing Corporation and Management Corporation doesn't provide direct financial assistance, but they can offer some support to the income qualified who were evicted or that need a place to live. The organization will have some slightly below market rate apartments available. Humble Ministries of Montgomery County supports only a limited portion of the county. The services from the faith based charity include prescription medication vouchers as well as emergency loans or financial aid for rent and other bills. Health care clinic

The Brazos Valley Community Health Centers is an option for low income people. The facility strives to provide high quality health care, and to eliminate health disparities by offering quality primary and preventive health care to the uninsured and other medically under served residents of Brazos Valley and Montgomery County Texas. There are also numerous programs in place to help people save on prescription medications and get free drugs.

Free health and dental care

Individuals and families with no, or limited health insurance, can turn to the The Community Clinic for help. It is located in Oak Ridge North in South Montgomery County. The clinic was established in 1996 by Dr. Joel Kerschenbaum. Find other ways to get help with medical expenses, including help with hospital bills.

The Community Clinic (phone number 281-364-7889) is a local, nonprofit healthcare center that was created to provide dental, medical, mental health and other social services to those who have no health insurance and if they do not meet other established criteria to receive medical care in another setting, such as governmental, state of Texas, or county assistance programs.

The organization is funded by contributions and donations, and it is staffed by licensed physicians, dentists, nurses, dental assistants or hygienists, translators, social workers, and countless other support people who volunteer their time and services to run the Clinic. The staff will provide patients with top notch, free medical and dental services.
