Find organizations that provide free clothes, furniture, back to school supplies and similar stuff to low income families in Washington DC. While some people may qualify for free items including clothes, appliances, bedroom sets or back to school supplies or vouchers, others will need to purchase items at a thrift store. Free stuff is given out as well as vouchers. There are also low cost clothes, computers, beds, couches, furniture, and other goods from a thrift closet. Much of what is offered will depend on the person’s or family income level as well as the specific need. There are also tablets too for adults or kids, and look here for a tablet for free for the low income.

Most of the non-profits and charities have limited resources. They rely heavily on contributions and donations from businesses and individuals in the community. Some of what can be provided includes clothing for work or school. Diapers, baby supplies, and free winter coats may be distributed as well as furniture for a home or apartment in Washington DC. Capitol Hill Crisis Pregnancy Center

Assistance is offered for parents, including education for pregnancy, birth and beyond through counseling. They help new or single mothers in DC get the stuff they need for a baby. Or sign up for parenting classes and childbirth classes. The center can organize shelter, free baby clothes, diapers, and maternity items.

Clothing, food, and furniture may be offered. Partners with the non-profit Central Union Mission's emergency furniture program. Ward 2 North residents may also look into emergency rental and/or utility bill assistance as well as items they need for a home.

Resources include a clothing bank for low-income families who are residents of Ward 6 in the District of Columbia. The non-profit also has a day program for men experiencing homelessness (case management, breakfast and lunch, showers, laundry service. There is also use of a phone and cell phone charging, mail services, computer access, and a clothing closet twice per month. The charity has a hypothermia/transition program between November and March men who apply and are accepted into the program (shelter, showers, meals, and case management).

The location is a thrift store, so they sell clothing and items to the public. In addition, some vouchers for free linens, clothing, and household items may be distributed.

Catholic Charities

A clothing closet and thrift store will collect donated winter coats and jackets, which are then distributed throughout the community to people who need help. Each year free school supplies, backpacks and similar goods are given to students from K-12. Other services provide qualified low income DC residents with assistance for paying their rent, food, and energy bills. Free vouchers for furniture or the train may be offered too.

Spanish Catholic Center

Social services, clothing, and other aid is provided. A free furniture bank may have some household items too. Basic needs provided include emergency rental and utility bill assistance. All applications are in Spanish too and immigrants can get free items too.

Capital Area Furniture banks
There are a few charities that give out free furniture, including in Washington DC. They have items, based on donations, such as dressers, lamps, desks, mattresses, TVs and more. Saint Vincent de Paul Conferences
There are parishes in all the DC Wards. Programs include free clothing or furniture banks as well as food or emergency financial aid. There may be winter clothes, blankets for the homeless, boots, and household supplies for clients. Goodwill of DC
