Food banks, soup kitchen and free food pantries in Houston area.

Hundreds of food banks, soup kitchens and free pantries operate in the greater Houston area. Most of the distribution centers are churches, community action agencies, or local charities that are open daily - some even today. Low-income families can get free boxes of food, groceries, toiletries, and even hot meals. Find a food pantry near you in Harris County.

The majority of the free food banks are located in the metro Houston area. The exact type of assistance programs offered at each food bank or pantry in the region will vary. Some provide just free groceries, and others may offer free holiday baskets or meals, dog or cat food (or litter), free personal hygiene supplies or toiletries, or other resources. There are also Meals on Wheels home delivery services for the homebound in Houton.

In addition, long term hunger prevention is arranged. Almost every location will offer information, including from smartphone apps, on  government low-income food assistance programs (both federal SNAP benefit and Texas) and local charities in the Houston region. Or even find apps that give you free food.

Immigrants as well as Spanish speakers are also assisted from a local Harris County pantry too. Supplies as well as hours are limited, but the distribution centers as well as drive thru food pantries will do what they can to provide free, emergency food assistance to as many people as possible. Priority is usually given to families with children, seniors, and the disabled in Harris County.

Where to get free food in the Houston TX region
