Cape May County assistance programs.

Get information on agencies, non-profits, and government programs that provide housing, rent, and financial assistance for paying bills.

Cape Human Resources - This agency focuses on utility and heating bills, and it provides assistance with HEAP, NJ SHARES, and USF applications. They also provide information and referral services to government programs and non-profits. They run the LIHEAP program, which is a federally funded government assistance program that provides subsidies every winter to help low income families pay their heating bills and utility costs. Atlantic Human Resources, Inc. - This is the Cape May and Atlantic City community action agency. The run several programs for the low income in the area.

HUD approved foreclosure counseling - Speak to a counselor to get advice with mortgage default assistance and foreclosure aid, risk loss mitigation, and free advice to both prevent and stop a foreclosure filing.

Eviction prevention - If you are facing an eviction from an apartment, a counselor can also advice you on programs and resources that are available. They also provide rental subsidies.

Low-Income Energy Conservation Program - The program provides financial assistance to meet heating and cooling bills and expenses.

Other programs offered include Head Start, Free Income Tax Preparation, and Information and Counseling.

Human Resources of Cape May provides other aid as well. This is in addition to the programs referenced above. They operate a food pantry in partnership with non-profits that relies on federal funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Parents that are working or in job training can apply for vouchers for paying day care, and the Human Resource agency can also direct qualified families to other social services, such as low income housing or SNAP food stamps. South Jersey Legal Services - This firm provides low income in the community with free legal consultations and support. Get help with family and civil issues, utility disconnections, landlord/tenant disputes. Another services, known as The Consumer Law Project, will assists consumers and individuals in various financial commercial matters, including foreclosures, debt collection matters, student loans, and Chapter 13 bankruptcy relief and protection.
