Virginia section 8 housing.

Get information on the Section 8 Housing Voucher Program in Virginia. There is government assistance in the form of rent subsidized houses, homes, and apartments for low income families. Section 8 applications near you can be found at the Virginia public as well as redevelopment housing authorities listed below.

Most of the section 8 housing is for low income families as well as those living in or close to government poverty guidelines. There are generally income based homes for the working poor, disabled, senior citizens, veterans, and even single mothers in Virginia. The section 8  financial assistance will limit the monthly rent payment that is due from the tenants of the program. Individuals can select their own approved home or apartment to live in, but the monthly rent charged by the property owner or landlord should be considered fair based upon market rates.

If the home meets fair market rates, then the state of Virginia RHA (redevelopment housing authority), working with HUD, will help you pay your monthly housing costs as part of section 8. Individuals will only need to pay at most 30% of their income towards their rent as well as other costs (such as utilities)  and the section 8 housing program will address any shortfall.

There is almost always a waiting list in Virginia. However those with special priority needs, which may be the sick, disabled, or elderly, can apply for emergency section 8 housing. This will help those who are on the waiting list or who are having difficulty in getting on it. Call one of the Virginia HUD approved housing agencies listed below to apply or learn more about the section 8 voucher program, including the expedited process.
