Lynchburg Community Action Group has an emergency grant program. This is the non-profit community action agency for the area. Apply at most one time per year for mortgage, rent, or energy help. Section 8 HCV vouchers are at Lynchburg Redevelopment & Housing Authority, 918 Commerce Street, Lynchburg, VA 24504. There is always a waiting list. Bedford Christian Ministries is only for low income and working poor families in Bedford County. Phone 540-586-2633. Emergency financial aid is based on income, and funds for rent or utilities. There are also case management services, and thrift store at 217 West Washington Street, Bedford, VA 24523.

Free Legal Aid Society is at 513 Church Street, Lynchburg, Virginia 24504. Lawyers offer eviction defense service, foreclosure counseling, help in applying for SSI grants or section 8 and more. Find a free attorney at 434-846-1326.
