There are a few different places to turn to for help in Rutherford County. They include those programs, services and resources listed below.

Heating and cooling bills

The Rutherford County government runs a Crisis Intervention Program. This energy bill assistance program will assist residents with paying heating or cooling bills. The aid is targeted at solving emergencies for families with children, the elderly in the area or disabled adults who are experiencing a life-threatening or health-related crisis. Recipients of the cash grants from the program must meet certain eligibility requirements including citizenship, income limits, and in addition a crisis situation must exist. Information on assistance programs

The Salvation Army has a local office in Forest City, and it can be called at (828) 287-0119. While the agency may from time to time have limited funding or loans available for helping to prevent an eviction and pay rent, or money for a utility bill, the main purpose of the agency is to provide information. They can direct people to various North Carolina and federal government programs. They also have information on local charities and non-profit organizations. Emergency financial assistance and support

Call Yokefellow Service Center at 828-287-0776. This organization provides qualified individuals with access to emergency assistance, grant programs for bills and housing expenses and other services. Housing and rent assistance - Not only may direct financial aid or a grant be offered, but it is combined with counseling and, if needed, landlord - tenant mediation. Housing programs, rent assistance formation, and foreclosure programs

Rutherford County Department of Social Services runs the emergency assistance programs. This is only for families with children, including single moms, dads, or 2 parent households. Government grants can pay water bills, rent, or utility/heating costs.

This is also the main state and federal government benefit office. Other resources include TANF welfare, SNAP food stamps, and information on SSI disability. Another program will help clients either find a job or obtain new skills, and these services are available in Rutherford County as well as western North Carolina.
