Financial assistance from New Mexico Salvation Army.

Individuals and families faced with a crisis can turn to the New Mexico Salvation Army. There may be free food or money to pay rent or utility bills, free school supplies for students, homeless shelter, case management, clothes and free Christmas toys for kids. The centers listed below administer a number of assistance programs to low-income households, the elderly, immigrants and others. Other resources from the Salvation Army range from furniture to budgeting advice or help for immigrants and Spanish speakers. There are also free vouchers for gas to get to work or an interview as well as emergency hotel rooms. The NM Salvation Army has a focus on those who are most at risk and disadvantaged.

Most of the people who stop by are faced with a short term hardship. The emergency assistance programs can provide New Mexico families with funds to help them stay in their homes or apartments, free furniture for a home, groceries from a pantry to feed their families, or coordinate financial assistance for electric bills

Salvation Army seasonal support is offered too. Or the get free back to school supplies for kids or Christmas toys. Most of the services, such as money to pay for rent, gas for work, or utility help are offered one time only, and people will also generally be signed up for self-sufficiency. Financial help from the NM Salvation Army and free items

The elderly, older adults and senior citizens can contact a center in order to enjoy an affordable, balanced, nutritious meal four days a week. Most Salvation Army pantries and feeding centers offer the meals for free, however donations are always appreciated. Most locations have a food pantry on site or pass out vouchers for the wider public as well.

The Salvation Army Angel Tree Program and other holiday assistance is offered. The agency will try to provide quality, free clothing and toys for children from low income families at Christmas time. Other group supported are seniors, who are also always main beneficiaries of the holiday and Christmas programs.

  • If the Salvation Army can’t help, there are other charity programs in New Mexico that may offer Christmas toys to children. Not only may a gift be given, but agencies offer offer food and meal programs. People need to apply early in October.

People across New Mexico have embraced programs such as Angel Tree or Adopt a Family, and they donate their time and money in order to help to make Christmas possible for thousands of less fortunate kids. With the help and donations from local civic groups, businesses and churches, Angel Trees are put up each year in public places in order to support and provide kids and teenagers with a memorable Christmas. Members of the New Mexico community can support this program by selecting a tag from an Angel Tree, and they then buy the requested item on that tag.

Homeless prevention and rehousing services are administered as well, and are a key focus. Outreach programs are offered for adults, single parents, and others who are faced with imminent eviction or who are currently homeless. Social workers can provide case management, short term transitional housing, and referral services. Resources and programs can assist individuals in achieving a higher level of functioning as well as a greater degree of independent living. Staff from the Salvation Army provide self-sufficiency services such as life skills training, individual counseling, medication management and a support group to assist individuals, families, and the homeless in stabilizing and transitioning to group homes or independent living. Salvation Army in New Mexico offers free basic needs year round. That could be something as simple as some free clothes for a child or senior to school supplies or backpacks for kids. There will also be furniture and hygiene supplies, even diapers. This can be offered from the Family Store or clothing bank. There are many other resources out there are well, and find programs that provide free stuff.

Eligibility for these any services mentioned above is not guaranteed and various forms of documentation need to be provided. This includes copies of pay stubs, rental agreements, identifications, and birth certificates. These are examples of what may be required by applicants.
