Nassau County Long Island has several places to turn to for free food, hot meals and/or groceries. Some of the locations will also have on site soup kitchens that can provide a meal or lunch to the needy, homeless and less fortunate. Food pantries near you, churches, and other charity agencies give away free food and offer assistance to struggling households.
It addition to short term, immediate support, they can also provide help over the long term such as applications to SNAP food stamps when an individual is going through a difficult period. Tens of thousands of residents are served by the Nassau County pantries or free soup kitchens, and find a referral number at the bottom of this page.
If you need help, you will not be turned away, regardless of your background or income. Many of the centers can also help people apply for other aid, such as SNAP food stamps, free baby formula from WIC, as well as the federal government food and commodity programs.
