Financial assistance from Economic Opportunity Council of Suffolk County.

Short term assistance may be available from the Economic Opportunity Council of Suffolk community action agency. The organization, also known as EOC, can direct low income families and individuals to emergency assistance and other education and job programs. Numerous services are offered.

Many people from Suffolk County New York are struggling to pay the rent, provide food to their families, find fulfilling jobs, and need help in keeping up with the ever increasing costs of utility and heating bills. This is when the Economic Opportunity Council of Suffolk may be contacted. If an applicant meets conditions and if they have the capacity, the non-profit may be able to assist.

Housing programs

Suffolk County veterans and their family members may get help from Supportive Services for Veteran Families - SSVF. Aid is for those that meet very low income guidelines, who reside in permanent housing, are homeless or that are scheduled to move into a new home or apartment. Components of SSVF include Personal Financial Planning and Income Services, Legal Aid through Touro College Jacob D. Fuchberg Law Center, and Vocational Services through the New York State Department of Labor

Other SSVF resources include Employment Training Assistance through the Suffolk County One-Stop Employment Center, Housing Counseling, Help in obtaining VA benefits though Suffolk County Veterans Service Agency, and Short Term Cash assistance.

All other housing assistance programs are a focus for residents of the county. Everything offered is both Fannie Mae and FHA approved. Suffolk EOC oversees Affordable Housing for eligible homebuyers; Free Housing Counseling that include credit education and budgeting; foreclosure prevention services; the First Home Club down payment assistance; and Reverse mortgage counseling.

The agency has information on and even helps develop low income and affordable housing in Suffolk County and on Long Island. All units are HUD approved.

The First Home Club will give families looking to buy a home closing cost and down payment assistance. This is for low income, first time homebuyers. Mortgages can be taken out from approved lenders and banks.

Free Foreclosure Prevention and Mortgage Default Programs provide counseling for homeowners who are having difficulty paying their home loans on time and maintaining their mortgage. The Economic Opportunity Council of Suffolk has information on New York State HUD approved foreclosure counseling agencies in Suffolk County as well.

The last resource is the Economic Opportunity Council of Suffolk (EOC) Comprehensive Housing Counseling Program. This is fully supported by the federal government and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Highly trained and certified counselors provide one to one homeownership services, budget and credit counseling, information on predatory lending and other support. They can even provide advice to tenants facing an eviction and provide information on possible rental assistance programs.
