Funds are available for the low income, senior citizens, unemployed, and working poor with rent assistance, low income housing, and other aid.

The Myrtle Beach area programs and agencies are focused on preventing evictions and homelessness in the community. They can meet this goal by helping people apply for emergency rent help or government programs such as section 8 housing.

For those individuals who are currently homeless, programs can assist individuals with finding new homes or apartments, paying for their security deposits, locating shelter, paying for first month’s rent, and otherwise get settled into safe and affordable low income housing units.

Catholic Charities - Crisis Assistance is offered for the needy. May include funds to pay rent, security deposits, or emergency housing aid. Call 488-2112

CareTeam, Inc. - Assistance and support is offered for patients with HIV/AIDS as well as their immediate families. Housing information may be included. Call 236-8429

Associated Charities – Furniture, appliances, and limited financial help may be available from this partnership of churches, when available. Part of this may include short term housing or information on local shelters. 448-6321




CASA (Citizens Against Spouse Abuse) – Offers emergency shelter and housing assistance. They run 24-hour crisis intervention (phone) counseling for parents and children as well. 626-7595

Horry County Department of Social Services – The local government agency that offers many financial and non-financial assistance programs. Each town/city has their own location to call. The offices may have information on section 8 housing, shelter, emergency rental and utility help, homeless prevention and rapid rehousing, and more. Christian Missions – Offers household items, clothing, electric assistance, and more in emergency situations. 293-2411

CAPS (Churches Assisting People) - Provides limited rental and utilities assistance for persons in Conway South Carolina. Call 488-2277

Faith Based Community Coalition – May have assistance for special needs persons, homeless and those in crisis. 448-3949

Helping Hand – Myrtle Beach. Runs several crisis programs. The emergency assistance programs can help with rent, security deposits, utilities, food, housing, and more. All services are offered on a limited basis. Dial 488-8451. Two other branches are in Horry County, and include North Strand branch (399-0862) as well as Helping Hands of South Strand. Call 238-4594

Waccamaw Economic Opportunity Council, Inc. – A number of social service programs and financial assistance is offered. Get help with rent, eviction prevention, case management, and information on low income housing. Horry County Veterans Affairs – Provides financial assistance to veterans, dependents and survivors. Call 915-5480

Housing Authorities – Housing programs offered include section 8 housing and homeless prevention. Also has details on public housing and low cost or subsidized apartments.

Horry County Council on Aging has information and referrals for residents and senior citizens over the age of 60, including the disabled. Federal funded eviction assistance as well as legal aid is used to prevent homelessness. Money may be provided by ESG grants for paying back rent. Other uses of the funds in Myrtle Beach or the county may be to provide free motel vouchers, help veterans, and offer support for a deposit or first months rent. More information.

Myrtle Beach Haven – Administers temporary shelter, food, clothing and referrals for homeless and poor. 626-2427

People for Caring – Assistance program for unwed mothers, including housing, rent assistance, eviction prevention, food and clothing, etc. 421-1749

Promise Land Crisis Center – Provides low income and elderly with housing, education, and more. Many seniors call on this Horry County non-profit for information and referrals. 358-8555
