Locate programs for help with bills, housing, rent, and other aid

Catholic Charities, based in Lawton, offers low to moderate income families a variety of services. They offer case management, counseling, family hope, and may have limited financial assistance for paying rent, utility bills, and vouchers for medications. The church also provides other resources to the needy in Comanche County. Loans may also be used by this local church in some instances. Gain access to free food, shelter, utility bill assistance, prescription drugs, and other aid from the Salvation Army Corps Community Center. The main phone number in Lawton is 580-355-1802. In addition to those services, they also offer senior and youth programs, nursing home assistance, and access to other local non-profits and charities. Even housing and rent help may be available. The local community action agency is known as the Great Plains Improvement Foundation, Inc., CAA. The non-profits phone number is (580) 353-2364. They are a great resource to call to learn about grant programs for paying bills and everyday living expenses, and also provide low income and other people access to services that lead to long term self-sufficiency. Some of the programs and services offered include Weatherization Assistance. This is a free energy conserving program.

Another option is LIHEAP, which can provide grants for paying utility bills and preventing a disconnection. They also administer a child and adult food program. Last, but not least, learn about programs that can help people both find jobs, and improve their income from gaining new skills.

Clothing and food

The Lawton Food Bank (580-353-7994) provides both clothing and food on an emergency basis to people in need in Lawton and outside the community. Call or stop by the facility to pick and find food at the pantry, and visit the thrift store.





There are dozens of other regional as well as local food pantries in Comanche County. Some provide free groceries and others serve a meal. Hearts That Care Volunteer Health Clinic (phone 580-354-9007) provides free health care. The clinic offers low income, the uninsured, and under insured with no cost, free health care and prescription medications. The facility focuses on the Lawton area, but people all across Comanche County can stop by to make an appointment.
