Volunteers of America programs in Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania residents that are struggling with their housing needs can turn to Volunteers of America. The organization operates across PA and offers information on rental programs, homeless shelters, and mortgage assistance across the entire state. There are also programs for seniors citizens, job training and other social services. Dozens of solutions are administered for those that need assistance.

Free stuff from VOA in Pennsylvania

The Caring Alternatives Pregnancy Counseling program run by Volunteers of America offers free personal hygiene items, clothing, formula, diapers and other stuff. The free items are for low-income single moms and families in need.

There is also an emergency pantry which offers food and basic needs. The center always welcomes donations as well. They need baby formula (mostly Good Start brands – Gentle Plus & Soy Plus), Diapers (sizes newborn to 3), Baby bottles, Baby wash, jar foods (fruits & vegetables (stages 1 & 2), lotion and even Nursing pads. This is combined with the Caring Program above, which gives diapers and wipes. New parents can apply too. More on a free diaper.

Regional thrift Stores offer furniture, clothing, appliances and household goods at traditional thrift store prices. The community, regardless of their income, is encouraged to donate items, shop and volunteer at the centers. Proceeds from items sold on site provide financial support for our programs.

The Pennsylvania Volunteers of America Thrift Stores offer a wide selection of both new and gently used merchandise, including, toys, large-print children’s books, shoes and branded clothing items for children, teens and adults. Locations of the centers are.

Free school supplies and assistance is from Operation Backpack. It runs statewide and helps underserved children get a jumpstart for a successful school year by providing them with new backpacks and essential school supplies.

Through the Operation Backpack program, Volunteers of America provides support for homeless and abused children. It can also help those who are so called at-risk youth and offers them a sense of hope and confidence while relieving their families of a significant financial burden. Many businesses and charities work with Volunteers of America in an effort to support Operation Backpack.

 

 

 

Pennsylvania housing assistance programs from Volunteers of America

Affordable and Low income housing from Volunteers of America in PA helps low-income individuals and families find safe, warm, secure homes or apartments, including some with a short or no waiting period. It can also help the currently homeless, It offers them access to caring people nearby who will help them when they need it. They are one of Pennsylvania’s and the nation’s largest housing solution providers and assist thousands of people with emergency shelter, maybe funds for rent, information on mortgage programs, and more. Volunteers of America creates and manages housing for the families with children, homeless, the elderly, and people with disabilities. Aid is for children and those with physical and mental disabilities as well. In addition, they also provide housing for residents and coordinate various support services such as transportation to medical appointments for the after school programs for children, elderly and training for those with developmental disabilities.

Senior Citizens Housing Programs from Volunteers of America in Pennsylvania offers safe, comfortable, affordable housing for eligible seniors and their spouses. It is developed, owned and managed by Volunteers of America. There are even many patio homes, apartments, and fully furnished residences. These will, among other things, offer access to important non-profit community services to help residents maintain their independence and dignity so they can live on their own.

 

 

 

 

In Wyoming Valley and Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania, the specially equipped Dial-A-Driver shuttle vans provide the elderly and disabled with transportation assistance to senior centers, medical appointments, shopping sites, and other quality-of-life destinations.

One program that is administered provides safe, affordable housing for young adults, ages 18 to 25, who are struggling and at risk for homelessness. The second component of this housing provides transitional apartments to young adults at risk of being homeless.

Employment and job Training includes the Pittsburgh Disability Employment Project for Freedom. This facilitates competitive employment for people with disabilities, including mental illness. This is a unique business driven education-to-work program that first assesses the human resource needs of the business community. After this is done, they work with job seekers and employers to then provides a matching training program to prepare candidates to fill these needs.

Working Orderm is a regional small business incubator. Staff from this resources develop and support entrepreneurship for disabled individuals and others seeking to be self-employed. It works by providing shared assistance to them such as office space and equipment, planning, coaching and assistance with skills such as sales and marketing and technical skills.

Self-employment solutions are part of the VOA Entrepreneurial Resource Directory. This is a free business directory that provides individuals who wish to be working on their own with easy access to resources that are available across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, including jobs for freelancers This resource is available for agencies, disabled indivuals who are interested in starting a small business, existing businesses looking to expand and all potential customers for an entrepreneur with or without a disability. The Entrepreneurial Resource Directory is a helpful resource for both supporting and finding potential entrepreneurs. It can also help with contacting locating services, for generating leads for them, for finding products and for improving the lives of disabled individuals.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Emergency financial help and hardship programs from Volunteers of America Pennsylvania

Former military members and their families can get help from the Supportive Services for Veteran Families. The housing program is paid for by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and government grants. The government, working with VOA of Pennsylvania, provides low-income veteran families with services aimed at preventing homelessness and improving their long term stability. The program serves many parts of the state including Cumberland, Adams, Dauphin, Lebanon, York, Lancaster, and Perry counties.

These services may include case management, Housing counseling, referrals and free Legal services. This can also include free assistance with Financial planning, Temporary financial support, Transportation, Employment search and help with obtaining VA and other public benefits. Volunteers of America's primary goal is to strengthen communities by providing help to those in greatest need. Volunteers of America offers community programs that include information and referral to public aid. They can access special events and other services. Other assistance programs are A.B.A.T.E. Toy Run, Books-To-You, Operation Backpack, Emergency Services, Action Team and Thrift Stores. The Toy Drive distributes free toys donated from churches, businesses, and individuals to children from low income families at Christmas.

In a crisis, the Emergency Services- Central Pennsylvania program provides free clothing, maybe funds for utility bills and furniture to individuals and families in emergency situations. Rent Help and Homeless Prevention Services are offered from VOA as well, and is really a focus of Volunteers of America. The agency works to prevent and end homelessness for families and individuals across the country by reaching out to homeless individuals through street outreach and mobile outreach services.
