Texas free job training programs.

The state of Texas and the federal government partner together to offer a number of resources that can provide free job training and employment services to individuals. Assistance is offered for a diverse background of residents, including the unemployed, people looking to start a new career, seniors, veterans, and others. Find information on the numerous programs and phone numbers to call in Texas are below.

The Senior Community Service Employment Program, or SCSEP, provides employment services and training to qualified, low-income job seekers. A number of conditions need to be met, including applicants need to be age 55 or older. The state of Texas can assist clients in securing unsubsidized employment in the private and/or public sectors.

Participants of the program will also be able to earn an income while they learn. Some employers may even provide benefits, such as limited health insurance. This will provide them with competitive job skills and it will also enhance their existing talents. This is accomplished from SCSEP by offering part-time, paid, on-the-job training assignments at government agencies and nonprofit organizations across Texas. During the training sessions, seniors will earn a minimum wage at the same time that they provide valuable community services. More on SCSEP senior citizen job opportunities.

The Texas Rapid Reemployment Services (RRES) program will help individuals who have used up all of their state and federal government unemployment benefits. It will connect them with a number of reemployment services to help the jobless find a new job as quickly as possible. The activities organized by RRES include an interview, orientation, assistance with setting goals and developing an individualized Employment Plan, and more. Much is this is offered at a local Workforce Solutions office.

Community action agencies receive grants as part of Skills Development. This is the state's premier job-training program. Texas will distribute cash grants to technical and community colleges as well as Workforce Centers to provide and pay for customized training programs. Inquire at a local community college if they offer this program.

Another name of this funding is the Skills Development Fund. It is a form of Pre-Employment Training for New Jobs and it was created as a pilot project. Many community and technical colleges in Texas get grants from this program and the funds are intended to help businesses train potential workers and to be sure they get the skills they need to be successful.

Texas will also focus on supporting the tens of thousands of veterans that live in the state. They provide services such as the TWC Skills for Veterans initiative. This was created in an effort to help address the unique training needs and challenges of veterans. The program is offered in partnership with employers and businesses across the state and it will pay them a supplement for training, including tuition and fees. In order to receive funding, the fees and tuition being paid will need to be for course offerings that are provided by public colleges or technical schools.

In addition to that funding, a wide variety of additional job training, employment assistance and related services are available to military members and veterans. They will also be given priority when seeking help from the state. Veterans will be provided the opportunity to search for jobs, gain skills and more. They will also receive priority service at Texas Workforce Solutions offices where they will be able to access access information on government benefits and transition assistance.

The Texas Veterans Leadership Program (TVLP), which is also managed by TWC, will assist those veterans that are returning from Afghanistan and/or Iraq. It will help then find work and achieve successful transitions back into civilian life. Numerous specialists, many of whom are veterans themselves, also play an integral role in meeting the needs of other returning service members and veterans. They will work with clients to address their educational, employment, training, medical needs and other services.

Veterans can receive the following. Job search assistance, Assessment and planning, Pre-employment and work readiness advice, Education, Job Training, Case management, Life skills, and information and referral to additional support services.

Texas SNAP recipients can work towards long-term self-sufficiency and independence from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Employment & Training program. It will help meet their work-related education and training needs. The main objective of SNAP E&T is to assist recipients and those on government benefits in obtaining employment. It may even be able to place them into local work programs and education and training activities. Using the services of a counselor at a Workforce Solutions Office can help families on government aid gain self-sufficiency.

Texas residents can use technology to make an income or gain new skills too. There are many websites as well as smart phone apps on the market. Whether it is freelance or tutor, or an app for making a little extra side cash to pay the bills, resources are out there. Computers and job centers in Texas are a place to learn about them, and migrants, immigrants, Spanish speakers and really anyone can benefit from them. Find examples of even apps that pay users for exercising.

Trade Adjustment Assistance can assist workers who are unemployed and in general adversely affected by job shifts to a foreign country or by foreign imports. Assistance is provided to eligible workers, including the unemployed, in the form of reemployment services. This includes additional training, relocation assistance, job search, and other support benefits. The components of the program include Trade Readjustment Allowances (TRA), Alternative/Reemployment Trade Adjustment Assistance (ATAA/RTAA), a Health Coverage Tax Credit (HCTC), and more for displaced and older workers.

The federal government funded WIA, or Workforce Investment Act, offers clients workforce development activities. It can help them increase skills and gain experience. It will help them with employability, retention, occupational attainment, and may even lead to increase earnings. In general, WIA will reduce welfare dependency, improve the overall quality of the workforce, and it will enhance the productivity and competitiveness of the Texas economy.

The Workforce Investment Act is also targeted to meet Texas employers’ needs. It offers services tailored for the underemployed, at-risk youth, the unemployed and those who have received a notice of termination or layoff. There is also special emphasis placed on the economically disadvantaged and low income families.
