Free clothes, furniture and school supplies Placer County

Low-income families and people with little or no money in Placer County can get free stuff. There are clothing closets, charitable voucher programs and furniture banks that give out items. Free clothes, school supplies or backpacks, furniture for a home and more may be offered. Find where and how to get free furniture or clothing items in Placer County.

What is given away will vary based on charity or distribution center. Examples of what is offered is as follows.

  • Free clothes, both new and used, are offered. There will be uniforms for work or school, clothes for adults or kids and a variety of goods given away.
  • Students in Placer County will get free back to school supplies. Everything from backpacks to uniforms, tablets or Chromebooks, writing material, books and more is offered for grades K-12.
  • Free furniture and appliances can be provided. In general, this is for very low-income families in Placer County (or the formerly homeless) that need items such as a couch, refrigerator, washer, dryer,  mattress or other items for a home or apartment.

The bottom line is there are many places to get free items in the region. Many charity organizations as well as churches provide free (or low cost) stuff to people in need. Free clothes and furniture distribution sites

The Gathering Inn has many social services, including free clothes, sleeping bags for the homeless, winter coats for kids and more. The charity is at 201 Berkeley Ave, Roseville, CA 95678. They also have a resource center with the free use of the internet or computers. Or get small kitchen supplies, utensils and other small goods for a house. Placer County Food Bank – Clothing Center is an option. While mostly groceries are given out, they also have partnership with other Placer county charities that give free clothes, household supplies backpacks to kids, and more. The homeless or migrant workers can get boots, socks, undergarments, and other free clothing items. Salvation Army of Placer County has multiple thrift stores and clothing closets, including in Auburn at 286 Sutter St, Auburn, CA 95603 (call (530) 889-3990) as well as a second location at 100 Lincoln St, Roseville, CA 95678 (dial (916) 784-3382). Both provide financial help, food as well as free stuff, including birthday toys, clothes, winter jackets and more.

  • Free school supply giveaways also take place in Placer County. There are also free emergency vouchers for furniture for people facing a crisis as well as holiday help. Find other Salvation Army programs in Placer County.

Auburn Adventist Community Services clothing closet is at 12225 Rock Creek Rd, Auburn, CA 95602. They help the homeless and low-income, including single moms in Placer County. Get everything from hygiene kits to free clothes, vouchers, clothing for newborns, and furniture too, including a crib or mattress. Assistance League of Placer County has a thrift store that sell bargain items. They also have free back to school supplies from Operation School Bell. This will give students Chromebooks, backpacks, notebooks, sneakers, pens, pencils and more. Whether low-cost furniture or appliances, or free school items in partnership with local schools, help is offered. The non-profit is at 1263 Grass Valley Hwy, Auburn, CA 95603. Seniors First helps the disabled and seniors over the age of 55 in Placer County get free stuff. Whether medical equipment, winter or year round clothes, or even food, help is offered. Parishes of Placer County Saint Vincent de Paul give students from grades K-12 free supplies, backpacks, notebooks, clothes and more. There are also feminine products for low-income women, diapers, suits for an interview and more. Placer County Health & Human Services focuses on helping the homeless, including adults, transient, women facing abuse and people with a substance abuse issue. The main shelter – clothing center is at 11434 B Ave, Auburn, CA 95603. Free year round clothes, blankets, CalWorks applications and more is offered. Dial (530) 886-1870

Furniture For Families is a regional free furniture bank, that also covers Placer County. based on donations, they give out free furniture, vouchers, appliances, computers and more to the low-income, working poor, and struggling single moms or dads.
