Madison County assistance programs.

The Salvation in Jackson Tennessee assists local residents and families in Madison County. They provide a variety of services at the Salvation Army.

Such of the help they provide includes rental assistance, and they are in the process of looking into a grant from a national company as well as government organization to offer help with utility bill payments. They have a food pantry on site that will provide food, groceries, and meals to lower income families. They offer a thrift store to the local community, and while they are in need of donations there as well, the store sells families lost cost, everyday supplies.

They run a youth center to help educate and keep kids busy. Last, but not least, they have a computer lab on site that people can use for such activities as job finding and catching up on computer skills.

Madison County Tennessee rent, energy, and other financial assistance programs

One of the agencies to call is the Regional Interfaith Association. Call them at (731) 427-7963. This church based group can offer rent payment assistance for Madison County individuals, and also direct people to energy assistance and free community clinics and dental centers in Tennessee.

The Madison County Crisis Intervention Program (CSC) provides the low income with grants as well as cash assistance and grants for paying utilities and cooling bills. Additional support can help with rent and  housing needs. The programs are offered to low-income families who, due to unexpected circumstances such as a job loss or medical emergency, find themselves unable to pay their normal household monthly bills and if they have no where else to turn. Methodist LeBonheur Community Outreach is a health care provider, clinic that covers Madison County and surrounding counties. There are no program fees, and the center can provides numerous health care programs, including preventive medical as well as dental, and clinical health services through collaboration with community clinics, healthcare and social service agencies in the region. They can help people obtain free or discounted medications, and provide such assistance as medical advocacy for patients. Call the facility at (731) 984-9963.

 

 

 

Southwest Human Resource Agency is the leading non-profit community action agency for Madison County Tennessee. A range of resources and assistance programs are offered, some on an emergency basis and others that are more self-sufficiency type services.

The county homeless assistance program is for the immediate Jackson Tennessee region. It encompasses emergency shelter and in addition to that, there are two off-site houses used for transitional housing. Additional supportive and essential services are provided as well, including budget counseling, job search assistance, and more. The Emergency Shelter Grant and Community Development Block Grant pays for this housing program.

The agency runs Head Start, which is an educational resource for children. It also provides food, medical support, and related support. It focuses on preschool years of Madison County children. The comprehensive services provided by Southwest Human Resource Agency include medical, dental care, social services and nutritional health.

Low income energy programs include conservation, weatherization, and also Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). Together these programs can provide cash grants for paying heating or utility bills. Weatherization is a free conservation program for local families that pay a high percentage of their income on their energy bills. LIHEAP offers direct cash grants and aid for paying utility costs, both in a crisis and on an ongoing basis. The Human Resource Agency also works with the federal government Department of Energy as well as the Tennessee Department of Human Services.

Food assistance is offered by the USDA Commodities - Southwest HRA Commodity Program as well as the government’s Summer Food Service Program. Among other things, they will ensure that the poor and low income (including children and seniors) receive nutritious meals. In addition, free bags or boxes of groceries may be passed out.

 

 

 

 

Also work with a case manager to find a job. Southwest Human Resource Agency offers clients support from the Workforce Investment Act (WIA). This is a government funded training and job program that involves local employers and job seekers in Madison County. Clients may access retention services, resources to hopefully increase their earnings, and occupational skill attainment.
