Harrison County assistance programs.

Find help with paying bills

Tri-County Community Action Inc. has cash and grants they need to distribute to people in need. Their budget is swollen with funds to provide as assistance. They manage the Comprehensive Energy Assistance Program which provides help with paying gas bills, utility bills, and other energy saving improvements.

They offer help to thousands of people with utility bills, and they have extra funds to pass out from the federal government stimulus money. Additional services offered by Tr-County include weatherizing homes and replacing or repairing heating and cooling units, as well as the replacement of refrigerators.

They also hope to be able to provide rental assistance in the not so distant future. Unfortunately many people who are struggling with their bills do not think they will qualify for assistance programs that Community Action offers. However the facts are that many agencies can help just about anyone, especially since the income eligibility guideline that is needed for assistance is expected to increase from 125 percent to 200 percent, which will now make even more people eligible for the programs and aid they offer. Free health care

The Marshall Health Clinic, located at 805 Lindsey St, has a program that provides discounted or free health care services to those in need. While it does not pay their existing medical bills, but it will offer them free care for any current health care need they may have. The clinic provides services to people regardless of their ability to pay, and wants to ensure no one goes without care. One of the major benefits of these clinics as well is their ability to provide free medications, or to be able to refer low income to other community clinics and health care centers. More on Texas community clinics.

In addition, they work closely with Good Shepherd Medical Center-Marshall and the staff at that facility. Together they have people whose sole job is to help people get assistance in paying their medical bills and they refer patients to various programs and resources that exist, whether those are federal government or the state of Texas programs.
