Rochester New York and Monroe County is served by several free food banks, soup kitchens as well as pantries. A number of non-profit distribution centers, churches, and other charity organizations are available to provide assistance to the low income and needy in the community. There are soup kitchens with meals, pantries near you with free food, groceries, and Thanksgiving or Christmas meals. A referral number is also on the bottom of this page.

Some of the services offered by the food pantries below can include free or low cost groceries, perishable items, and emergency boxes of household items or personal hygiene supplies. The specific resources often vary based on donation levels. Call a center near you for specifics, or if a food bank if not near you, they may be able to refer you to a center that is closer to you or your family. The Monroe County locations are focused on helping as many low income, unemployed, and people facing a hardship in the community as possible. Other services generally available in the Rochester area include applications for food stamps, summer lunches for children out of school, Meals on Wheels for the homebound, and holiday meals.
