Water bill assistance in Connecticut.

Find help with paying water bills in Connecticut. There are charities, hardship programs from the Aquarion Water Company and other local providers that offer payment plans, funds to pay a deposit and other support to low-income families. Get assistance with water bills in CT.

Each company has their own form of assistance, including  Aquarion Water Heritage Village, Torrington, Avon, and Connecticut water. Most of the programs support seniors, the disabled, low-income and families that lost their jobs. Charities as well as community action in Connecticut will also offer emergency help to families so they can pay their bills and keep their water on. Find more details below.

Financial help in CT and payment plans for water bills

Each company has Customer Assistance Program. Aquarion Water Company of Connecticut as well as other local service providers offer financial assistance, grants, and vouchers to low income customers, the elderly, people faced with a shut off. There may also be help offered to others who are struggling with paying their water bills as well as funds to help the low-income pay connection fees.

Based on many factors, such as the applications total household income and asset levels, the companies help eligible customers who are having difficulty paying their monthly water bills. Vouchers and hardship grants are given out to qualified customers of Aquarion Water Company or other companies, as funding allows. program is limited in scope and the demand for assistance in Connecticut is very high.

To qualify for emergency help with paying water bills, customers must be receiving their bills on a quarterly basis and meet the following conditions. Even if you do not qualify, note that the water provider may also have other resources or payment plans that they can offer on an exception basis.

While terms and conditions vary, in general the applicant needs to be a contractual renter (and the water bill must be in tenant's name), or the applicant to the program needs to be a homeowner. Low-income families with a disconnect notice will often be given priority too. They must be receiving one or more government benefits or social services through one of these assistance programs:

 

 

 

  • Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and/or Social Security Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF)
  • Helms Housing recipient paying the minimum
  • Connecticut Energy Assistance Program (CEAP)
  • Section 8 (Housing Choice Voucher Program) or the state of Connecticut Rental Assistance Program (RAP)
  • State-Administered General Assistance (SAGA)
  • Federal Government Medicaid

It is important to note that receiving Social Security retirement benefits alone does not qualify applicants for the assistance program from Aquarion Water Company or CT Water. One or more of the benefits noted above must also be received. Or there may be a payment plan offered or some other form of relief.

As noted, non-profits in Connecticut also offer emergency water bill assistance. Funds are limited. When qualified, and if the charities have resources, hardship grants will be provided for past due water and/or sewer bills in CT. In order to apply for help, you can dial any of the phone numbers and agencies below. Or a local community action agency. An application will need to be completed by the customer and returned to the water company or charity. They will review it and sign up qualified people accordingly, as funding allows.
