Applications for free Christmas toys and free gifts are taken by some or all of the charities in the Asheville area below. The demand for additional help around the holidays is very high as many families struggle to buy the gifts their kids request. Or they struggle to pay for a Thanksgiving or Christmas meal. The non-profits, including Toys for Tots, below may be able to help by giving out free Christmas presents, food baskets and Thanksgiving turkeys.
Using donations from the community for programs such as Angel Tree or Adopt-a-Family, the goal is to provide children from low income families some form of gift or clothing item. Toys for Tots of Western NC - Asheville, Henderson and Buncombe County
Each year several thousand households get assistance. Children can be given free, unwrapped toys from the US Marine Corps program. Donations and volunteers, as well as local charities, operate it. Hands on Asheville United Way Volunteer Center
Volunteers and local churches give back. There is an Adopt a Family Christmas and Thanksgiving program. Free Christmas trees, food baskets, Grant a Wish, Adopt a Senior program and more.
