Bartholomew County assistance programs.

Salvation Army Corps. Bartholomew Financial Assistance. This non-profit charity organization provides qualified individual with financial emergency assistance as funds are available. Does not provide help with paying rent or security deposits. Clients may only come in once for a year for financial assistance from the Salvation Army. A food pantry is also available on site. Numerous other social services may be offered for low income families from the Columbus Indiana location, including Christmas assistance, holiday meals, school supplies, and other support. Love Chapel also offers an Emergency Assistance Fund. The program provides financial assistance to persons with utility and heating bills on disconnect status and deposits (do not pay for late fees), provide funds for paying rent and other emergency needs. Note they will assist with paying rent and security deposits based on an individuals or families emergency need, and will not provide help for moving to a better place or because client is not happy with current location. Will help with those moving into HUD or Section 8.

Note that persons applying need to first apply for financial assistance from their township trustee for eligible items or obtain a denial before receiving assistance from Love Chapel. Columbus Township Trustee provides a written referral with amounts promised.

Overnight accommodation and also counseling and case management for those who are homeless or at risk of being homeless is available with referral from Horizon House. The Love Chapel also provides emergency financial assistance for basic needs, bills, and expenses. Limited case management services include: financial assistance for paying heating and utility bills, rent, rent deposits and utility deposits and diapers for babies.

If you need help finding a job, even Job Resume and Job Information Services and help with GED expenses are available to low income individuals. Very limited clothing and children's books are available. In certain cases, the non-profit agency may help with special clothing. Human Services, Inc. provides energy and heating bill assistance with heating and electric bills during the cold Indiana and Columbus winter months. They also provide a summer cooling bill program, as well as Share the Warmth charity energy bill program. They also run a food pantry on site. The community action agency Human Services, Inc. also offers several other resources.

 

 

 

 

Weatherization can help low-income persons, seniors, or the disabled conserve energy and save money on their utility bills. It can also have minor repairs that can in effect improve their health and safety. Caulking, insulation, and other improvements are made for Bartholomew County homes.

Free foreclosure assistance is offered in partnership with the Indiana Foreclosure Prevention Network and other non-profit housing-related agencies, banks and government organizations. It assists with mortgage delinquency and foreclosure issues, and Human Services Inc. assists as well.

Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program helps pay a portion of a qualified, very low income Bartholomew County families rent. It is the main federal government subsidy for housing costs. The recently evicted and those working full time, but still struggling, may benefit, among others.

WIC -Women, Infants, and Children is a government nutrition program that provides vouchers, food checks community referrals and nutrition counseling to pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women, infants and children. It is intended to be a supplemental food assistance program.

Referrals, information, and case management is provided. Get information and help in applying for government befits such as LIEAP, TANF, or food stamps.

Food for a Day, Faith Ministries Church, Offers non-perishable food and groceries that will feed a family of 4 for a day. Dial (812) 342-4412

Love Chapel Food Pantry provides 3-5 day emergency supply of free once a month. The center has baby food, diapers, baby formula. The site also distributes fresh fruit, vegetables and bread when needed; fresh milk for children ages 5-10 years and people 65 and older once a month; provides soap, personal hygiene items, shampoo, toilet paper and laundry products.
