Catholic Charities assistance programs Winston Salem and Forsyth County.

Catholic Charities helps the less fortunate across Winston-Salem North Carolina region. There is free food as well as clothes, along with burial assistance, support for immigrants, and emergency financial help. Catholic Charity churches also help veterans, single moms as well as children with their needs.

Much of the assistance is material support, such as groceries, meals, or food. But Catholic Charities also can have some limited financial aid for bills. But a major focus is on counseling, stability, and helping families (or individuals) gain long term stability.

Free support, food, meals, clothes from Catholic Charities

Families struggle to budget when they live on a limited income. When this occurs, it may be difficult to pay for groceries (among other bills). When this occurs the Catholic Charity food pantry is available in Forsyth County. It is an emergency program/option when in a crisis. There is also a soup kitchen for hot meals.

The pantry uses donations as well as volunteers to (1) keep is stocked and (2) keep it open. There are also corporate partners in Winston Salem that are part of this assistance program. Gift cards come from grocery stores as well as major national companies such as Wal-Mart, or these corporations donate funds or other support.

Or Catholic Charities also help with burial and/or cremation bills. Veterans are a focus of Catholic Charity services as well. Food can feed families and clinics address medical or dental needs.

 

 

 

Catholic Charities will support people as they work toward gaining long-term housing, stability, and self-sufficiency. If and when needed, the agency also provide education, groceries and employment support to be certain that once clients reach a more stable footing, they can maintain it. Forsyth County clients can also be given awareness of how challenging it is out there. There is information on help available for the needs and realities that face those who live in poverty. Counseling, guidance, and free advice in Forsyth County

This is a major focus of the Winston Salem area Catholic Charities. There are services for new parents or pregnant teens. Immigrants and newcomers to Forsyth County can also get assistance. Many resources, some of which are below, are available.

Immigrant and Refugee Services, including Employment Programs, assist newcomers. The main goal is to help newcomers to Forsyth County adapt to the American Workplace. This will, over the mid to long term, help them achieve financial stability and stop or need an existing need for public assistance. The service will offer:

-Budgeting classes.
-Employment and job training.
-Special workshops for unemployed immigrants in Winston Salem.
-Catholic Charities arranges classes for employers to showcase the refugees skillset.
-Use of tools such as computers, the internet and more. Find other sources of free internet access.

Catholic Charities also helps immigrants in other ways. There are ESL classes as well as assistance in getting documentation. The charity partners with local lawyers in Winston Salem to help people get Green Cards or get travel documents or visas. Other help may be offered on a case by case basis.

There are generous donors in the community that provide reading materials for children and help youth. The Children Reading Program allows youth to have books, magazines, and educational material. These items can help youth grow to have a love of reading at a young age.

Catholic Charities can refer parents to this service as part of adult education, including GED training or classes. The charity also holds educational classes for parents of all income levels and backgrounds. The program will encourage children to read at a young age to help them be prepared for success in nursery or elementary school, which then can lead to success throughout their lives. Parents also well as kids can both benefit, as parents can benefit from ESL classes and other skills based services.

Advocates from Winston Salem Catholic Charities also work with clients to determine, set, and follow up on family and employment goals. Or there are objectives around saving money, debt reduction, and similar financial needs. The advocate will help people overcome challenges that may have lead to poverty. The goal is to help individuals on low incomes or that are struggling to find a job recognize their potential through support and education. The assistance comes in many forms. There may be advocacy with other providers/supports, home visits, and employment assistance. Some of the outcomes of this process are as follows. But each case is different.

The process may also assist people to secure housing that meets families' needs. There may be financial literacy education given to help families plan a future out of poverty. Advocates will also assist with medical needs, by addressing health care of the entire family. At the end of the advocacy sessions, Catholic Charity clients will ideally be in place to have increased their total family income.
