Find where to get food assistance or referrals to longer term government benefits from a pantry or food bank in West Virginia. Churches and charity organizations listed below by county provide struggling households and people with little or no money free groceries, hot meals, personal toiletries and other support. In addition to providing free or low cost food, including for a cat or dog, these non-profits are a great place to turn to for other help. For example, many provide people information on government assistance programs including SNAP, where to turn to for items such as baby formula or WIC, counseling, and they usually have referrals to local drive thru pantries in WV. Regional free food distribution centers in WV

Facing Hunger Foodbank is part of Feeding America. The center works with dozens of local pantries, feeding sites, charities and other places that focus on feeding the poor and low-income. They service families in the counties of Cabell, Lincoln, Logan, Mason, Mingo, Putnam, and Wayne. The center provide free food, formula, fruits, and more to income qualified West Virginia families. Also inquire into government aid such as SNAP food stamps.

  • The other programs offered including USDA surplus commodities, which feed kids and seniors in WV. There are also free mobile food pantries, summer food programs for kids, and healthy boxes. This will include fruits, gluten or sugar free groceries, dairy and other goods. Mountaineer Food Bank is another main distribution center. The non-profit partners with local charities, pantries, and non-profits. Together they offer free groceries, canned goods, perishable items and more to low income and poor families. Many children and students receive help as well.

  • The center also offer addition assistance programs, including Fresh Initiative Kids Market, linkage to mobile pantries, surplus government commodities and others. The counties supported include Barbour, Berkeley, Boone, Braxton, Brooke, Calhoun, Clay, Doddridge, Fayette, Gilmer, Grant, Greenbrier, Hampshire, Hancock, Hardy, Harrison, Jackson, as well as Jefferson.

The Feeding America center is also a provider for Kanawha, Lewis, Mc Dowell, Marion, Marshall, Mercer, Mineral, Monongalia, Monroe, Morgan, Nicholas, Ohio, Pendleton, Pleasants, Pocahontas, Preston, Raleigh, Randolph, Ritchie, Roane, Summers, Taylor, Tucker, Tyler, Upshur, Webster, Wetzel, Wirt, Wood, and Wyoming. West Virginia Family Resource Networks are located across the state. These are emergency centers for certain areas. The FRN locations give out free food, provide groceries, serve meals and more. The goal is to help struggling people, including the most vulnerable like kids, single moms and seniors, get a free healthy meal or box of groceries. Christian Help provides help to anyone in Monongalia County. The location is 219 Walnut Street, Morgantown WV, 26505. Call (304)296-0221. Offers free food and other assistance. Anyone can get help, regardless of income. Households are eligible to receive a three day supply of non-perishable canned goods such as soup, vegetables, fruit, and tuna in addition to pasta and sauce, bread, peanut butter, coffee or tea, and whatever else we might have available. No one is turned away. Receive help up to once every 60 days.

Free senior meals are available to the homebound, disabled and people over the age of 60 in WV. The two main programs include congregate and home-delivered. The West Virginia Bureau of Senior Services leads the statewide senior-nutrition network in partnership with charities as well as local senior centers. The Soup Kitchen Of Greater Wheeling is for Ohio and Marshall County. The location may serve hot meals to the low income and homeless. The charity is at 1610 Eoff Street Wheeling WV 26003.
