Home Energy and Utility Bill Assistance: This assistance program provides cash grants and financial assistance to individuals or families with low to moderate incomes. The goal is to help people with paying for the cost of home heating bills and expenses during the winter time, and money can also be made available to pay for summer cooling and air conditioning bills.
The Family Resettlement Program - This is a program that will assist TANF recipients and other people who have formally received federal or Georgia government assistance. The program will focus on individuals who are at the end of their eligibility, if they need additional services upon obtaining employment. Funds can help them pay their rent and/or utilities, with the goal of helping them become self-sufficient.
Weatherization assistance: The non-profit community service agency helps low-income, senior citizens, the disabled and elderly families reduce the high cost of home-heating fuels, and air conditioning bills, by providing glass replacement, attic insulation, caulking, and other home repairs and improvements to help make homes more energy efficient, and help reduce energy bills.
Government Emergency Food and Shelter Program: This is a federal government funded program that helps people with paying for the costs of food, shelter, rent and utility bills when they have economic or financial emergencies not related to disasters. Food Banks: Food banks and pantries are located throughout Walker County that are stocked with food to assist eligible people in need of food assistance.
Government Surplus Food: The community action centers distribute the USDA "surplus" commodity foods to eligible individuals and families when available.
Several other resources are offered in Walker County. For example, homeless prevention may be able to help with rental costs for families facing eviction. Meals are offered for seniors, and the under employed can take part in job training.
