Southwest Mississippi assistance programs.

Amite, Pike, Walthall, Wilkinson County Mississippi families can get free or low cost health care, help for utilities, rent assistance, and other aid from the agencies and organizations listed below.

Southwest Mississippi Opportunity, Inc. - This is the non-profit community agency agency that helps the low income and other needy individuals and families in Southwest Mississippi. Many services are offered, including  Utility Bill Assistance from LHEAP, Community Block Grants which can provide emergency financial assistance for paying bills, Low Income Weatherization, Food and nutrition and Fatherhood Initiatives. You can also meet with a credit counselor and learn about how to deal with debts, banks, and payday lenders in Mississippi, and find payday loan alternatives. Call (601) 684-5593 to speak to a counselor from the agency. While the headquarters is in McComb Mississippi, they do serve all the counties in the area.

Crisis Line - McComb - This organization may be able to provide crisis and emergency assistance, which includes help for paying utilities, rent, cooling bills, hotel and motel vouchers, gasoline, and other crisis agencies. Summit Mississippi. (601) 276-6869

Southern District Fellow Ship Outreach, which is based in Magnolia, offers food to the low income. Dial (601) 248-2806.

McComb Interdenominational Care Association - Can offer free or low cost food for the needy, assistance with prescription medications and shelter for women and children in the area. (601) 684-1969

Christian Fellowship Outreach - Gives out food once a month to eligible participants and local families. Clothing is given out on emergency as needed basis as well. (601) 876-4570

Walthall County Food Bank - This is the local food bank/pantry that provides free food. Tylertown. (601) 876-5093.

PBM Ministries - A food pantry for those low income in Wilkerson County Mississippi. (601) 888-3880

 

 

 

FMCH Field Clinic - A Certified Rural Health Clinic that also has a hardship program for the low income. (601) 645-5361

South Central Mississippi Community action may also provide some support to qualified low income families. They offer GED training from an education center, information on utility bill assistance as well as free energy conservation resources, and other support. They may have referrals to emergency financial aid, including grant or loan programs, to pay rent in cases of imminent eviction. Other support is for the elderly in counties such as Walthall and Pike. More information.

Amite County Medical Clinic - This community clinic accepts medicaid, medicare, provides health care on a sliding fee scale, takes all private insurance, and also allows self pay. (601) 657-4326
