A number of charities and churches help low-income families. There are also items like furniture (couches, beds, etc.) for a new home or appliances as well, including a fridge or washer. Utah Dream Center

They help college students in Salt Lake, and in particular undocumented and/or DACA kids. Accepts donations from the community and will resell the goods to low income and struggling families. Students may get free school supplies, clothes, sneakers, boots and referrals to tuition services too.

Salt Lake City Deseret Industries
The locations are a non-profit vocational rehabilitation facility and thrift store. People can both donate new and gently-used merchandise and also purchase quality, inexpensive goods for their children and families. Some families may be given free vouchers to pick the stuff they need, even including furniture or general use clothes.
