Ritchie, Roane, Tyler, Wirt, and Wetzel West Virginia assistance.

Find several different agencies, non-profits, and charities that can provide information or forms of direct financial assistance and grants. Low income families can apply for loans or grants that help with rent, security deposits or utility bills. There is also free stuff (food from pantries in Ritchie County, healthcare, school supplies, clothes or Christmas toys). Or residents may recive emergency transportation, free foreclosure or debt counseling, and even enroll into job training in counties including Tyler.

The local community action agency is Community Resources, Inc. A number of free or low cost services are offered, including rent eviction prevention (FEMA only), FEMA Emergency Assistance on utility or electric service termination, vouchers for medical prescriptions. Other programs include LIEAP Applications, Coats for Kids, School Supplies, Emergency Food Pantry, Self-sufficiency Programs, Youth Enrichment Programs, or free School Clothing Voucher

 The non-profit will also offer Information & Referral on local charities and government programs, Garden Seed Distribution, Dental Assistance and access to clinics for those who quality. The goal is to help the struggling and working poor.

In addition to that, the community action agency also runs a federal government funded Weatherization Program. The non-profit Community Resources also provides special assistance, meals, and gifts to needy families during the holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving. Roane County Housing Authority runs the local West Virginia section 8 housing voucher low income program. The housing group may be able to provide emergency rental assistance to low-income families, working poor or individuals in the community. Roane County Helping Hand is a food pantry located in Spencer West Virginia. (304) 927-3420. Both meals, free boxes of groceries, and other basic needs are available. There are also holiday meals at Christmas, Easter, or Thanksgiving.

Children's Home Society of WV (call (304) 485-0650) provides free food and groceries to children, women, and the less fortunate in the region.

Salvation Army is a great resource for Ritchie, Roane, Tyler, Wirt, and Wetzel Counties West Virginia. The national based charity organization may be able to help individuals and families meet their basic human needs, such as gaining access to furniture, clothing, energy bill help, furniture, cooling bills and utilities, help with paying rent rent.

Based on funding, there may also be medical prescriptions vouchers, free food, sundries, seasonal Christmas program (Food and Toy Shop, Angel Tree), religious and charitable activities, and other support and advice. Call (304) 343-4548.

A second location of the Salvation Army can be reached at (304) 845-0510 and is located in Moundsville West Virginia. This may have free school supplies or shoes/uniforms for kids. Wirt County Community Resources, Inc. is focused on getting people out of poverty. The agency may be able to provide services, information, and access to assistance programs which help the low income and poor obtain basic necessities that they need. Such as learn about rent assistance programs, how to get energy bill help, free food, medical care, and more. In addition, work closely with a counselor to develop the longer term means to change those systems which cause poverty in the region. Some of the programs run include Job assistance, Job Readiness Classes, Emergency Food Pantries, and HUD Referrals. Those are just samples of the resources. Catholic Neighborhood Center is located in Wheeling WV and can provide financial assistance with utility bills and housing. Call (304) 232-7157.

 

 

 

Public health clinics

Health Right of New Martinsville (phone (304) 233-9323) is a free public health care clinic for the low income and uninsured. Check up, medications, and substance abuse can be arranged.

Good Samaritan Clinic, Inc. is a center for patients who don’t have government Medicaid, Medicare or any type of private health insurance. Income conditions are in place too. The center is a free health care clinic and is involved in providing primary health and dental care to the medically indigent as well as low income in the community. (304) 422-7357.
