Some of the leading charities and non-profits to call for emergency rental assistance and eviction prevention in Brazoria Texas are listed below. While these agencies will offer a number of different services to low income, seniors, and the disabled, many of them administer programs that specialize and focus on housing, rent, and tenant issues and related financial concerns.

Most of the Brazoria organizations will help individuals and families who have no other financial resources, and they serve as agencies of last resort. Case managers and social workers want to help the less fortunate become more self sufficient whenever possible, and one of the keys to doing this is ensuring residents have access to safe housing. So funds may be available to pay rent in a crisis, or if eviction is imminent.

Brazoria County Welfare Department is a government/public assistance organization, and can help people with no other options available to them. The center can assist with emergency financial aid including rent, utilities, LIHEAP, and medicines. Grant funds are limited and are not always available. AIDS Coalition of Coastal Texas, Inc. – While they operate out of Galveston, they serve all of Brazoria County. This non-profit 501(c) (3) organization supports HIV and AIDs patients, and can provide housing solutions to them.

Christian Helping Hands of Pearland Texas is a non-profit organization that was created by local churches. The churches work together to provide short-term assistance with basic needs, such as rent, moving costs, and deposits. The agency's primary goal is to help the less fortunate and working poor become more self sufficient over the mid to long term whenever possible. The organization and the assistance they provide is by donations from local businesses, member churches, and even private individuals, and they are always looking for more generosity from the Brazoria community. Brazoria County Community Action Council and the services they run are paid for by the Texas Department of Community Affairs. A number of resources and services may be provided for low income individuals & families, and they try to address the root cause of poverty. Call 979-849-2928




First Presbyterian Church - Lake Jackson – May have limited amounts of cash ($50) for emergency expenses. (979) 297-3049

Brazoria County Housing Authority administers the federal government funded solutions grant (ESG). The agency may be able to offer emergency rent and electric bill payment assistance to those in need of help. The homeless may be able to qualify for help with paying security deposits on an approved low income apartment. Brazoria Community Development (dial (979) 864-1860) administers the federal government stimulus funded homeless prevention program.

Society of St. Stephen is made up of three local Brazoria County Texas churches. They are Chapelwood United Methodist Church, First United Methodist Church, as well as Christ Lutheran Church, which is located in Lake Jackson and can be reached at (979)297-2013. They have created a charity organization that helps people and local families with paying for rent and other expenses such as prescriptions.

Lone Star Legal Aid - Dial 979-849-6464. Can help address housing issues. Free legal aid is for dealing with lengthy waiting lists for housing, section 8, and more. Attorneys also offer eviction counseling.

Government housing and rent assistance may be provided by the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs. The Housing Assistance Programs run by the government include rent assistance to low income families and elderly, displaced persons and the disabled/handicapped. Some low income families in Brazoria may receive a grant for their rent. Section 8 vouchers may be provided too.

Salvation Army has assistance programs that were designed to give limited amounts of emergency financial assistance to families in crisis situations, such as those threatened with eviction or homelessness.
