Various services are available for low income families, the working poor, disabled, and elderly. Most of the aid is disbursed from Human Service centers in Gwinnet County. Both state and federal government funds are used to keep this public benefits flowing in the region.

Seniors can get information from a free Senior Helpline in Gwinnet County. The service can provide older citizens and/or their caretakers with guidance, information, and referrals to public assistance and other programs. The helpline will offer callers up-to-date information on financial assistance programs, housing, free legal aid, social security, counseling, education, recreation, rehab services, public health care, Medicare and Medicaid, nutrition, adult abuse and neglect, nursing homes and much more. In addition to the hotline, there is also a center that people can stop by at for face to face services. For those residents who would prefer to speak to someone in person, they can visit the Gwinnett Senior Services Center. The facility is located at 567 Swanson Drive, Lawrenceville, Georgia 30043. Social workers can provide information on a number of services, such as low income energy assistance, food pantries, and housing.

Care Management and social services can be provided by the county. Care Managers are available to meet with struggling or low income elderly families and individuals to educate, evaluate, and determine needs for services. Together you can sit down and explore potential resources, including cash and public assistance. Get help in seeking other government funding options, both federal and state of Georgia. The goal of the Care Managers is to develop a plan to support the family. They want to help the senior live at home safely and independently, and to prevent the caregiver from becoming overwhelmed.

Gwinnet County Georgia Human Services Centers can offer information and applications on public assistance services. In particular, the Norcross and Buford Georgia Human Services Centers are "one-stop" integrated human and health service centers. Both of these, and other locations, offer a wide array of assistance programs and services as well as providing programs for area seniors.

 

 

 

The centers partner with other outside nonprofit and governmental agencies to bring assistance programs that benefit the community and clients of the service agencies. Services that can be provide include information on rent assistance, community involvement building, Positive child and youth development, LIHEAP applications, family support, and individual health and wellness.

The Buford Human Services Center offers a very diverse and wide array of human services and health care programs. Information on grants and financial assistance programs can also be provided to individuals, families, and seniors to help them pay bills, housing, and other expenses. This location is open for Gwinnet County residents. The Centerville Community Center may be able to provide quality facilities. Social workers will work with individuals to develop programming that strengthens and serves the diverse needs of the community.

Medical bills assistance is available as part of Medicaid. This is the main federal programs for the uninsured and very low income. Staff will also usually have information on local Gwinnnet County clinics as well.

Job training and educational services are for unemployed and residents looking to acquire new skills. The training services are available from professional staff and counselors. Teenwork will help the younger generation as well.

 

 

 

 

Food vouchers are available from the publicly funded SNAP food stamps or the TEFAP (Emergency Food Assistance Program). Very low income families, seniors, and children can receive free healthy food for their basic needs.

Grants and cash for bills and basic needs is available from TANF and programs such as LIHEAP. This tend to be the highest demand public aid programs so only a small number of applications are fulfilled.
