Operation Stand Down helps veterans.

Operation Stand Down Nashville, Inc (OSDN) is an organization that helps veterans throughout Tennessee. It is the primary nonprofit resource for veterans who reside in the Middle Tennessee area, it can also support people across the entire state. It will provide them with life changing social services including transitional housing, referrals, help for paying bills, employment readiness training and placement assistance, housing and rental assistance, and coordination of the activities of other agencies in the delivery of such services and resources.

The program relies heavily on donations and contributions from individuals and businesses in the community. Your donations will go towards helping people who have diligently served our nations and state.

Centers across Tennessee provide for and/or coordinate a variety of services to honorably discharged veterans. While anyone who is struggling and meets qualifications can get help, in general a special emphasis of the assistance programs is on those who are homeless or nearing eviction. For example, emergency rental assistance may be offered. In addition, Operation Stand Down operates a Transitional Housing Program that is providing the necessary support and social services for homeless veterans to ensure a successful return to responsible living. Local centers across Tennessee coordinate an annual outreach event to provide support services for homeless veterans and their immediate family members.

Employment Services are offered, as a well paying job is key to self-sufficiency and financial stability. The Operation Stand Down team of employment specialists work to help veteran clients in obtaining and keeping meaningful careers with local industries and companies.

Some of the resources provided include interviewing skills, resume development, job searching, computer training, credit repair, money management and more. Case managers and staff provide one-on- one coaching, technical and moral support and transportation assistance for a job or an interview.

Veterans can receive personal pre-employment counseling, technical assistance, job training, and placement assistance. Counselors will work with you throughout the entire process. Clients will also have access to computer training and job retention counseling.

Thrift Stores are available in some locations, such as Nashville. Not only can it provide a job-training program for veterans (as they can work there), but it also provide clothes to veterans and will generate revenue to support Operation Stand Down programs in the Tennessee Veteran Service Center.

The Transitional Housing Program offers shelter and very short term housing and apartments for honorably
discharged men and women who are Veterans. The agency takes a holistic approach and utilizes a home setting that provides a structured, secure, and safe environment. Counselors provide professional, supportive case management services to those who are homeless.

As indicated, donations are always needed. Please help the agency. Your contributions will assist veterans in rejoining the community as contributing citizens. Every dollar you give, every job you provide, every day of shelter, every article of clothing or other personal item will be used. Every volunteer hour or dollar counts. All donations are tax deductible. People can contribute money, personal care items, hire a veterans, and provide other support. Some of the Operation Stand Down members come from over 25 community services agencies and other veteran type charities.

Hundreds of veterans use the Operation Stand Down program each and every year, and they receive medical assistance, food, performances, legal aid, grants for certain bills and expenses, shelter, movies, and free even free haircuts. So the demand for funding is very high.

Their offices are located at 1125 12th Avenue South in Nashville Tennessee. To learn more on the Operation Stand Down program in Tennessee, dial (615) 248-1981.
