Rent assistance programs in Northern North Carolina.
Locate organizations that help struggling families with paying rent, with organizations providing money to residents of the counties in the northern part of the state, including Warren, Vance, Person, Franklin as well as Granville. Most of the charities and churches, as well as government agencies, extend their rental and security deposit assistance programs across that entire region, as they all work together to prevent homelessness. The primary places to call are below. They will also have information on other charities in the region that offer financial help with housing in the area. This is done as there are several churches in the area, such as Person NC, that will offer a very small amount of money for rent or other housing related expenses. Those sites will only take referrals from another non-profit.
The northern counties are also supported by statewide financial resources that help pay back rent. These range from free legal aid to section 8 housing vouchers to some of the grant based programs resources for paying a portion of any rent arrears. More information on those are below as well.

Salvation Army Social Services

There are a few centers for the region. From time to time there will be small amounts of funding available for expenses such as rent, utility bills for senior citizens that rent a home, or shelter services. Another housing expense will be for water bills. In some cases, the center may provide a loan to the tenant for any back rent they owe.

They run a shelter for the unhoused in northern NC, including for victims of domestic violence. Clients can receive applications to grant programs from the state of North Carolina for rental expenses or security deposits, counseling, and more.
Legal Aid of North Carolina
This free lawyer office supports struggling renters in the entire region, including Vance and Person Counties. Call (910) 763-6207 for free legal eviction assistance. This is only for low income families and the elderly.
Department of Social Services
A few long term cash assistance programs can help low-income families, or singles, pay their bills including rent. The Work First Family Assistance / TANF is the main benefit. There is also emergency help with housing, rent and more.

The community action agency can help prevent homelessness and address employment needs. In a crisis, grants may be available for rent or utilities, or they partner with local PHA across the northern tier on HUD vouchers.
