Free and Low-Cost Health & Dental Clinics New Haven County CT

New Haven County, Connecticut has a large network of Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and low cost community clinics that help residents access medical care regardless of income. These centers, as listed below, are located in cities such as New Haven, Waterbury, Meriden, and surrounding towns. They may provide primary care, dental services, and behavioral health treatment to uninsured and underinsured individuals.

NOTE: Residents of New Haven County who do not have insurance should contact these clinics directly to ask about sliding fee scale programs and appointment availability, as changes can occur based on funding levels and staff. Many locations accept walk-in patients or offer same-day appointments, but calling ahead is recommended. Applying for discounted care is usually simple and can often be done during the first visit.

Most community clinics in the county operate on a sliding fee scale. This means the cost of care is based on household income and family size. Patients with little or no income may qualify for free or very low cost services. These clinics are required by federal guidelines to provide care regardless of the patient’s ability to pay, although proof of income is typically required to receive discounted rates.

In addition to medical services, many locations may offer extra support such as help applying for HUSKY Health (Connecticut Medicaid), prescription assistance programs, nutrition counseling, and behavioral health services. Patients are usually asked to bring documents such as pay stubs, tax returns, identification, and insurance information if available when applying for services.
