Transportation is offered in some Nevada counties. In Clark County the program is known as the Taxi Assistance Program. The Nevada Senior Community Service Employment Program helps people who are 55 years and older, low-income seniors, and qualified individuals who need to gain up-to-date work experience and refresh job skills. Part time jobs may be provided to participants, while providing a genuine service to the community. This will occur as the job will more than likely be at a local non-profit or government agency.
People can gain on the job work experience, earn minimum wage for a 20 hour work week, possibly receive benefits, and also individuals can gain work experience and skills at non-profit agencies, city, county, or state of Nevada offices.
Food and nutrition programs are available for seniors in Nevada. The elderly can access an array of free meals, food, and nutrition services, including assessment. Home delivered meals may be provided to the elderly. Volunteers can prepare and delivers nutritious meals to the homes of older persons and senior citizens who are unable to obtain or prepare their own nutritious meals. Other services offered include counseling, nutritional supplements, and therapeutic meals as medically warranted, a full complement of daily meals, and other services.
Congregate Meals are provided to persons over the age of 60 at a variety of nutrition sites, agency on aging and senior centers across Nevada, and they are conveniently located in areas in which there are the greatest economic and social needs. In addition to the free meals, socialization, nutrition education, and physical fitness activities are also provided at the centers. Last, but not least, access shelf stable meals, which will be distributed to participants for use at home during emergency situations such as severe weather.
