Financial assistance in middle region of Kansas.

Emergency rent, free food, transportation, medical or dental care, and utility bill help is available in the middle of Kansas, including the counties of Sumner, Harvey, and others. Find churches, details on charities, and government programs that may assist.

There are other assistance programs as well as free items offered too. Low income families can get government grants or free school supplies or Christmas toys for kids. There is information on low income housing in Middle of Kansas, financial help from churches, cash aid programs, hot meals, and government benefits too.

Agencies that provide financial assistance in Mid-Kansas

The Community Action Program, Inc. is one of the first places that many people call for assistance. Resources can help the low income improve their education, attend job training, and hopefully find work. Short term financial assistance can pay for utility bills, rent, and dental assistance while people improve their situation.

Other classes and workshops are offered for budgeting and credit repair. Free income tax filing can be completed for free by VITA. Hesston Resource Center – Call or apply for assistance with paying rent, gas and electric bills, and receive food. Services are only offered for families in the Hesston school district. 123 N. Main St, main number is (620) 327-2729

SRS-Social & Rehabilitation Services-South Central Kansas runs the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) program for resident of Harvey and Reno Kansas. Harvey County Mid-Kansas Community Action Program. The non-profit can assist and support working poor and low-income families. Social workers will help individuals as they move from poverty to self-reliance, personal independence, and as they increase their income. The non-profit can assist individuals in providing opportunities for employment services, housing and rental programs, education and training, and general support through case management. Newton Salvation Army can help people with emergency needs. Food, clothing, thrift store, vouchers, and maybe even money for basic needs may be offered. There is also free Christmas toys from Angel Tree, a homeless shelter, case management, and back to school supply program. Call (316) 283-3190

Another Salvation Army center is in Hutchinson. The main program they offer is HPRP. This program provides assistance to persons who are facing eviction and who are at imminent risk of becoming homeless. Additional resources are administered for people who are homeless now. Housing assistance can be used for paying for costs as utilities, rent, cooling bills, and more. Also get help paying for moving costs if you need to move to more affordable housing. A free back to school supply giveaway event is held. Students from low income households may be given bookbags, books, tablets, shoes, pens, pencils and more. There are hundreds of kids that get assistance each year, and find other free low income school supply programs.

 

 

 

 

Reno County Community Services – The local community action agency for Reno. Offers many of the same services as the organizations listed above. All resources focusing on addressing poverty, and providing some short term financial assistance for paying bills. Main number (316) 775-3000

Emergency Services of Hutchinson Kansas. Residents who are faced with a crisis or hardship can take advantage of this emergency program. Services provide shelter, food, prescription medications, case management, heating or cooling bill help, transportation assistance, and disaster relief. 700 N Walnut, Hutchinson, KS 67504-310, telephone (620) 663-3353

Regional Churches - Everything from case management to limited, one time financial aid may be available. Low income and working poor families in regions such as Harvey can qualify for case management or career counseling.

Other more financial or material support includes a client choice food pantry for free groceries or vouchers. Those facing eviction may qualify for a loan or funds to pay back rent or an overdue heating bill. Mulvane Care and Share Center, Inc. – The organization distributes cash contributions and other items that were donated at the Mulvane Care and Share Center, Inc. It only helps qualified people in the school district, and will try to address the welfare of the needy. It can help those who are in need of assistance with medical bills, food, clothing, rent, and utility bill assistance. Main number is (316) 777-1590

Mid-Kansas Community Action Program, Inc. offers the following.

  • Rental assistance is offered from the federal government Emergency Shelter grant program. Funds are used by the agency to prevent homelessness and evictions. Money provided by the non-profit can assist with paying rent and utility bills to ensure families can stay in their apartment or home for up to another 30 days.
  • Currently homeless individuals and families can receive help paying for security deposits and first month’s rent. Vouchers can provide for motel or hotel rooms too. Both of these housing programs, as well as the Emergency Shelter Grant program itself, are paid for by the Housing and Urban Development on the federal government level.
  • Tax returns can be filed for free at the agency. Trained employees can help you complete your returns and file state of Kansas and federal tax returns.
  • Job finding programs – Access services including resume review, interview preparation, and more. Mid-Kansas CAP will work with you in either a group or individual setting too.
  • Homeless can get referrals from the supportive housing program. Learn about the Mid-Kansas apartments that are available or financial aid resources, including loans, that can be used for deposits or rental costs.

Food programs in middle part of Kansas

Health care centers and free community clinics

PrairieStar Health Center – The government qualified health center can provide patients with a full range of dental and medical services for individuals unable to obtain them or pay for them elsewhere. Health Ministries Clinic - Services offered here include health education, medical, diagnostic testing, minor surgery, prescription medication assistance and vouchers, dental care, and referral for special needs to local hospitals. 209 S. Pine, Newton, Kansas 67114. Call (316) 283-6103

Harvey County Health Department – Focuses on preventive health and dental services including child health assessment, immunizations, specific basic health services, family planning, Women-Infant-Child (WIC) Program, health education, preventative dental and cleanings. 316 Oak in Newton, KS 67114. Reno County Kansas Immunization/Health Clinic is in Hutchinson. Medical professionals, doctors and nurses provide education and services that will assist the public to prevent disease, promote wellness, and maintain health. Medical screenings for pregnancy, anemia, hypertension, glucose, colorectal, cholesterol, and strep are offered. Phone (620) 694-2900

Prairie View, Inc. of Hutchinson can provide mental health services and behavioral support. Main number (620) 662-4700.

WIC - Health Department is offered in Marion and Reno County. Other towns and nearby cities may offer this too. The government program can provide food to eligible pregnant, breast feeding or delivered women. Infant children up to age 5 yrs can also get formula and other foodstuffs. Specialists also give nutrition education. Dietitian consultant and breastfeeding educators are available at the office.
