Free food pantries, groceries and meals Cedar Rapids and Linn County Iowa.

A number of food pantries operate in Cedar Rapids and Linn County Iowa. Many of the centers are based in local churches, non-profit groups, or charity organizations. While priority is given to people who are most at risk, such as seniors or the working poor/unemployed, the Linn County soup kitchens and free food banks near you will try to help anyone who needs it. There is also a referral number at the bottom of the page for more information.

In addition to distributing a wide variety of free food as well as social services to the needy, other services can be offered as well. For example, some may operate senior centers, which offer Congregate Meals, Nutrition Sites, and may even distribute home delivered meals to seniors, the disabled, or homebound. Other pantries can help people apply for social services or government aid such as food stamps, WIC, LIHEAP, or emergency financial assistance.

There are both pantries and soup kitchens in the Cedar Rapids area. Some locations may service Christmas or Thanksgiving meals too or give out free turkey dinners. Or they provide personal hygiene items along with the groceries. The pantries are always looking for donations as well, so if you can contribute food to the charities or churches, please do so.

Several of these centers operate in Linn County. Meals, perishable items, baby formula, and other assistance is available for people who need help. They will try not to turn anyone away.




Bridgehaven Pregnancy Support Center

They only support pregnant women and low income parents with kids under the age of 18. One time food is given, there is infant formula for free at the pantry, and other supplies, including counseling.

People of all religions can stop by for food, groceries, guidance, and support. There are also Christmas meals, especially for children and senior citizens in the community.

This is a senior Congregate Meal site, and also operates a food pantry. Seniors can also get information on programs and resources such as Medicare or financial assistance. Can direct clients to services such as Meals on Wheels as well.

Linn County Community Action Agency (Hawkeye)
The regional non-profit, quasi government community action agency. Families, including those in poverty or the jobless, can get help. Free housing, job and employment programs, government grants for bills and other social services may be arranged.
