Homeless shelters and transitional housing in Lee County Florida.

In an effort to provide temporary housing in Lee County, several agencies operate a combination of homeless shelters or transitional units for the working poor and low income. Families or individuals with kids that are homeless also have emergency shelters they can turn to for both a place to sleep as well as a meal and information on how to obtain permanent housing. Each center will be staffed by a combination of volunteers and staff. They are dedicated to providing both short term solutions to the un-housed as well as helping to stabilize the situation. Other services provide by the short term housing programs in Fort Myers include meals, clothing, and information on long term housing solutions, whether that is a voucher for section 8 or placement into a low income apartment. Some of the Lee County shelters also provide emergency housing to single moms along with other support to the un housed, such as hardship grants for single mothers and their kids.

Temporary housing in Lee County

Abuse Counseling & Treatment is located in Fort Myers, FL. They provide assistance, including a safe place to stay, to women that are victims of domestic violence, and there is also support for their children. A homeless shelter is open most nights to provide adults, teens, and even the elderly a place to sleep. Shelter is combined with a meal and guidance from the staff.

The charity helps single moms as well as their kids. Transitional housing, meals, clothes and other basic needs are met. There is also a free, emergency shelter program.

Homeless Response Team of Lee County
Various government entities, churches and charities work together to offer support to the currently homeless and people close to it.  Both emergency housing is provided as well as other support services. A Christian based homeless shelter is on site. Also transitional housing is for adults recovering from substance abuse. Counseling services, support and guidance is for Lee County adults with an addiction that need help, including housing.

Salvation Army Social Services Campus

They offer emergency shelter for the homeless. There are sites for single women, men, and children. Other programs in Less County include casework as part of Comprehensive Care and counseling as placement into transitional housing.

The Salvation Army will also provide meals as well as clothing to clients. Other services for the homeless are GED classes, housing placement assistance, budgeting and more, including help with security deposits for people that successfully go through the Comprehensive Care process.

Shelter is for pregnant moms. They can also get baby items, diapers, furniture, and more.

St. Matthew's House

The main program is Justin’s Place Recovery Program. Males who are going through the recover program may be provided housing as part of Wolfe’s Place, but this is only for those clients. It is a rent subsidized, low income apartment complex. Thrift stores with furniture are also available as well as meals from Firehouse Feeding Ministry.

Housing Authority of Fort Myers

An emergency shelter is operated. Teens, young adults, and runaways among others in Lee County FL can use the shelter for a safe place to stay.

Information on public housing, financial aid, and homeless prevention is provided along with emergency homeless shelters. There is also a Family Self-Sufficiency Program, vocation job training, credit workshops, and placement into transitional as well as low income apartments. The income based apartments are mostly for the disabled in Lee County, however the Hatton B. Rogers Retirement Community is for senior citizens. They are residents with a lower income, and medical care, transportation, and other support is arranged too. Transitional housing and other locations include Cape Coral, Punta Gorda, as well as North Fort Myers.
