Kansas emergency assistance.
One of the leading places to turn to for emergency financial assistance in Kansas is the Salvation Army. Their programs and services cover the low income, unemployed, seniors, and others across the entire state. The social services they administer can address a number of basic needs that individuals may have.
The Kansas Salvation Army and their Emergency Assistance Program includes a number of resources and services that can help families and individuals pay their bills, stop evictions, provide free food in a pinch, and deal with financial hardships. A leading human and social services agency, the non-profit charity organization is dedicated to helping people regardless of their background, race, religion, culture or other factors.
While funding is limited, and not everyone can qualify for help, the services that are offered by the Kansas locations of the Salvation Army are quite extensive. They include funds for utility and heating bills, emergency assistance, crisis intervention, and food. Some of the less common resources include counseling, self-sufficiency programs, budgeting, emergency rental assistance, referral services and much more. Case managers at the branches strive to empower people, especially the lower income, and to enable individuals who need help to change their circumstances and overcome the challenges to long term self-sufficiency that may stand in their way.
The various programs and services are offered in every county across Kansas. The emergency assistance offerings that are available to qualified individuals are a key part of the Salvation Army and what they do on a daily basis. Every year hundreds of thousands of people and families access the services. Some may get financial help for paying bills, rent, and housing. Others may just need food, clothing, and household items. Even more people just need referrals, case management, or support.
The items in greatest demand are requests for aid for families who need cash for bills like utility, rent, or other housing expenses. Due to this expense involved in offering that form of aid, it can be difficult to meet the demand. A number of caseworkers and/or volunteers from the branches will meet with families to assess their needs and help them apply for aid, or refer them to where to go.
Another service offered as part of Emergency Assistance Program, that may not be as well known, is that people can get gifts, meals, and food baskets during the Thanksgiving, Easter, and Christmas holiday. Several thousand people get help around the holidays every year from resources such as the Angel Tree or holiday meals.
The Kansas Salvation Army is one of the primary places to contact to apply for emergency utility and heating bill help. The three main programs they administer are the Gift of Warmth, Heat Share, and another known as Share the Warmth.
Both Share the Warmth and the Gift of Warmth are programs that operate in the winter. The two programs were created to help Kansas families who need assistance in paying their winter heating bills and keeping their fuel tanks full.
A program that is run in partnership with Aquila, Inc. is Heatshare. This is another utility bill assistance program administered through the Salvation Army in Kansas with additional assistance available directly from Aquila, Inc. Lower income and senior households who need a helping hand with their utility bills and who can demonstrate and prove their need may qualify for help from HeatShare. Financial assistance and cash grants are available until funding is exhausted.
