Free clothing closets, school supplies, and furniture Flint Michigan area.

Clothing closets, furniture banks and thrift stores in the Flint and Genesee County region can provide low income families as well as those who are less fortunate with help. Find free clothes, back to school items, furniture for a home or apartment and other assistance. The centers also support the nearby Michigan counties of  Shiawassee and Tuscola.

A number of basic needs can be met by the free non-profit furniture or clothing bank centers including free clothes, winter coats, shoes, school uniforms or supplies, and even Christmas gifts and toys. Some also offer household supplies  or furniture, including beds, utensils, baby cribs, office desks, and related items.

Many of the clothing closets as well as furniture banks in the region are located at churches and charity organizations. They also depend on the generosity of people in the community to donate surplus goods to the centers. While the lowest income families in the Flint Michigan region may receive free items (even school supplies for K to 12), others can shop at thrift stores and receive gently used goods for a minimal cost. Thousands of students get the back to school supplies they need each year from giveaway and “drives”. Those store may sell new or used furniture, appliances, clothing, or toys, even for a birthday.

While the centers will try to meet all requests, if requested clothing or household items are not in stock, some clothing centers or furniture banks will create a waiting list. Also inquire about other social services that may be an option in Michigan.
