Even find an emergency section 8 housing voucher application.

General and emergency assistance from churches

A group of 19 local churches formed an organization called Love INC. While the churches are scattered around the county, the main office is located in Chaska and can be reached at 952 448-2508. The churches have partnered together to provide emergency services to local families.

They are filling a gap in services by dividing up and provided people in need with everything from diapers, blankets and food to helping to coach people on job searches and helping with car repairs. In most years, thousands of people from Carver County get assistance. Learn more on Love Inc in Carver County.

Many local and regional churches, both in Chaska and other towns, help those that are less fortunate. Find additional stories and examples of how churches are helping people in need. Meals, shelter and more may be offered. Continue with church charities near you.

Additional financial assistance to help pay bills or free stuff in Carver County

Another place to turn to for aid is the Scott-Carver-Dakota CAP Agency, Inc. They offer several different programs and administer numerous resources for local people who are in need of help. The services they offer include those listed here.

  • Energy and Heating Bill Assistance Program (EAP): The community action agency provides cash grants to help low and moderate income people pay residential heating and electric bills. In addition, additional funds may be available from this program for energy crisis situations and energy-related repairs, such as repairing a furnace.

  • Family Assets for Independence in Minnesota (FAIM): CAP Agency FAIM program provides families with money saving incentives, budgeting tips, and support for money management and financial planning. For example, counselors can refer people to such assistance programs as credit card hardship.

  • Emergency Services: If you are facing a crisis situation, emergency services will help families and individuals get through an immediate, short term crisis for which all other resources have been exhausted. Assistance provided is limited to the funding that is currently available.

  • Eviction Prevention, Housing & Homeless Prevention: The Scott-Carver-Dakota CAP Agency administers federal government funded Housing and Homeless Prevention programs. These will help people who are facing an eviction, who are currently homeless or at risk of being homeless. The program will help people secure transitional housing or maintain existing housing. Find other ways to get rent help or eviction prevention services. More on eviction prevention programs near you.

  • Weatherization Assistance: The CAP Agency Weatherization provides homeowners with ways to reduce their heating and energy bills. It will provide insulation, minor furnace repairs, caulking, and even furnace replacement services to help reduce heating and cooling costs for clients.

  • Health Care from the Crisis Nursery: This resource provides families in crisis 24 hours of overnight care, very basic health care and child care services. Or it can provide up to 5 days of day care at no cost for children age 12 and under.

  • Thrift Shop: Is also located on site. It offers local residents gently used clothing and small household items for sale at reasonable prices in a department store atmosphere, so people can access quality items at a low price.

Feel free to stop by the Scott-Carver-Dakota CAP Agency, Inc. Mary Sullivan at 712 Canterbury Road, South in Shakopee, or you can call them at (952) 496-2125 to apply or learn more about assistance programs.

The Salvation Army provides support in Chaska and the county. This is a leading charity in the region, and while “faith based”, they help people regardless of age, race, or religion.

Most of the services are available from the clothing center, such as free toys from the Adopt a Family Christmas program and winter coats. But there may be occasional referrals to financial help for bills (including security deposits or rent) or local food shelves. The Salvation Army also gives out free school supplies, vouchers, and operates homeless shelters and soup kitchens. Call (651) 746-3400, or find help from Carver County Salvation Army.

There are two main charities to call for help, and they include Bountiful Basket (1600 Bavaria Road, Chaska, Minnesota 55318, dial 952-556-0244) as well as the Waconia United Food Shelf, which is at 11 S.
