Free school supply programs in Austin and Travis County.

Charities, local school districts and non-profits provide free school supplies in the Austin Texas area. Each year thousands of students of all ages (from Kindergarten to high school or even college) can the items as well as clothes they need for the school year. Find where to go for assistance below. Note the list is just a sampling, and find other free Travis County clothing closets.

Travis County and the city of Austin has schools that offer low income assistance programs. Students can turn to their district for help, including pens, pencils, highlighters, calculators, backpacks, electronics such as free Chromebooks or tablets, and other items. There are also churches and charities, like the Salvation Army in Austin, which also give away from school supplies. In general, the free items are for children, students, immigrants, and others in need.

Apply early for assistance. Or donate when possible. As the need for school supplies is also high and in demand. But even when supplies go, some clothes may be offered to students such as sneakers, shoes, pants, socks, dresses and much more.

Travis County Salvation Army school supply events
Running in the summer and up through the early fall, the Christian, faith based charity helps the disadvantaged. Emergency food, school supplies, backpacks, meals, and even financial aid. They also help parents (and kids) by giving out free gift cards for shopping for school supplies, notebooks, or clothes at Wal-Mart, Target, and other stores. Austin Independent School District, or ISD, gives away supplies to their students only. There is an annual Back to School Bash and Safety Fair. There can be a backpack given out with free school supplies, booster seats, hygiene supplies, and even basic health screenings for students who lack insurance. Over 120 business and groups also  participate. There is also Project HELP.

The church gives out many free items. Back to school supplies, notebooks, tablets, calculators and more. Thousands of residents in Travis County also get free clothes each year, jackets, boots, winter attire and other goods.

The charity is a social service agency. Children, students, and even their parents can get assistance. Clothes, a dental clinic, back to school supply giveaway for Travis County, and so much more. There are books, educational supplies, uniforms, gift cards, and other items as well. Kids may often get up to two sets of new clothes.

They partner with ISDs in Travis County and Austin. Donations are used to get kids, including Spanish speakers, Indians, and other nationalities, with free school supplies. Immigrants and migrants can also get assistance.

 

 

 

 

Society of Saint Vincent de Paul
There are many churches and volunteers that are part of this charity. There is a low cost thrift store with furniture. There are also hygiene supplies, food, hot meals, clothes, books, and some supplies for students. The poor, immigrants, vulnerable, and others can get help, even emergency financial aid. Only Children in the program can get free back to school supplies. It is for homeless and students in poverty who are in the SafePlace program. They also partner with the University of Texas Charter system.

Foundation Communities
The non-profit has multiple locations and programs. There are ESL programs, after school services, and a back to school supply event. Students can get clothes, backpacks full of supplies, backpacks, and more. Everything from paper to writing material, calculators, highlighters and more may be offered.
