Austin area assistance programs offered by Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

A number of churches are part of the Austin Texas Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Services are offered to those who need help, and can include food, spiritual guidance, and possibly even limited amounts of financial assistance for dealing with a crisis. The society will try to help the low income in Austin make it through a short term difficulty, while also helping people gain longer term self-sufficiency.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul has as its main purpose the goal of providing spiritual growth and aid through local churches (members). Needy people and families in the community, regardless of their background, religion, or culture, are provided support and a sympathetic ear. When possible, the charity may be able to offer immediate financial assistance for paying for needs such as rent, utilities, cooling bills and emergency other expenses and basic needs. Many of the programs are run by donations, so if you can contribute, please do so.

The Hunger Ministry operates in Austin. Volunteers are part of this program, and they work to provide free or low cost food, meals and other support to the needy and working poor. The volunteers can help educate residents about hunger and available resources in Travis County Texas. They can provide people with information on ways to get help, provide the address and phone numbers of pantries and soup kitchens, and much more. St. Vincent de Paul also partners with many local community outreach programs and non-profits, such as Meals on Wheels, Austin, Leander, and Round Rock food pantries, CROP Walk, Mobile Loaves & Fishes, and Caritas.

Residents with AIDs or cancer can also benefit. The agency can also provide compassionate, practical and emotional support for people who are living with cancer or AIDS. Some of the services offered can include providing transportation, visiting the care partner, shopping for groceries, making phone calls, doing light housekeeping/yard work, and meal preparation.

In general, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and member churches will help people who live anywhere within their geographical boundaries. All information and services are confidential. While the agency will do what they can do help anyone who needs it, always keep in mind that the amount of resources and aid offered is limited.
