1. Animals await at the Fernbank Science Center.

The module was recovered from the Pacific Ocean just 10 hours after its launch and eventually made its way to the museum in Atlanta. Animal lovers will want to visit the live animals exhibit, that is free and open to the public. At this location they'll find a collection of cool critters and creepy, crawly reptiles. Admission to the museum and parking are free, but there is a fee for planetarium shows.

Movies begin at dark and guests are encouraged to bring a picnic and chairs or blankets to sit on (bring some extra blankets to bundle up on chilly evenings!). Dogs are also welcome, as long as they are kept on a leash.

The scenic Chattahoochee River meanders right through the heart of Atlanta, and not to many cities offer that. Visitors are invited to bring their own kayak, canoe, or tube to any of the numerous entrances to the river. Families can spend a calm day floating along the flowing water and enjoying the beautiful sights and sounds of the city. While most of the river is fairly docile, there are certain sections where thrill seekers can find a whitewater challenge.
7. Take time out at Lullwater Preserve.
Lullwater Preserve is located on the campus of Atlanta's Emory University, one of the nation’s premier colleges. This gorgeous outdoor space provides a calming retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city of Atlanta. Acres of inviting forest filled with towering trees create an enchanting atmosphere.
Families and their kids can take a break on the banks of Candler Lake for a picnic or capture beautiful photos of the rushing waterfall, and bring your own food to save even more money. The remarkable "Lullwater House" (a 1926 Tudor mansion) is located on the preserve as well as the remains of an octagonal powerhouse. Kids will enjoy making their way across the wood and steel span bridge on the way to the powerhouse.

The High Museum of Art offers free admission on the second Sunday of each month, and both adults as well as their kids can get in. In addition to exploring the amazing artwork throughout the museum, families can enjoy special family-friendly programs and events from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. These special programs are easy on the budget include art-making workshops, free to watch musical performances, family yoga, films, and story times. A fantastic photo opportunity awaits at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home to the Atlanta Falcons who played in the super bowl. For those families who might come back to the stadium to catch a game one day--there's even more artwork inside the building. Over 180 pieces of art relating to football, soccer, and the history of the city can be found in the stadium's art collection.
10. Get wet at Centennial Olympic Park.
Centennial Olympic Park is a stunning tourist attraction. The park provides a fantastic view of the city and it's surrounded by marvelous venues such as the World of Coca-Cola and the Georgia Aquarium. The most interesting part of this beautiful park is its centerpiece, the Fountain of Rings. Kids for low to moderate income families love to splash around in this fountain depicting the Olympic rings, and parents enjoy the delightful interactive water and music show that runs four times each day. Water, lights, and music synchronize to create a dazzling 8-minute show. The show runs at 12:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m., and 9:00 p.m. each day.
11. Explore the Atlanta Belt Line.
The Atlanta Belt Line provides a fantastic opportunity for families to get in touch with nature and enjoy outdoor activities like biking and hiking. The Belt Line includes seven trails with varying degrees of difficulty and seven public parks boasting numerous attractions and fun for the whole family.
