Food banks, soup kitchen and free food distribution centers in Arizona.

Residents of Arizona that have little or no money can get free food, meals, and other items such as hygiene supplies from a food bank or pantry in their area. Staff at the sites can also help clients sign up for public benefits including Nutrition Assistance (SNAP benefits) or refer them to drive thru or mobile pantries that are convenient to their home or residents can also get a free hot meal from a soup kitchen. Many of the distribution centers in the state work closely with other charities, government human service offices, and local churches. Many locations may also be part of national non-profit charity type organizations (including Feeding America) that provide low cost or free food to the low income, disabled, elderly, and other people in need. In addition to a free box of groceries from a center in AZ, there are also pet food banks as well as services such as Meals on Wheels. In addition to the resources below, AZ Food Help is a free to use website directory. This is a statewide tool that lets people search for food pantries in their area (pantry, mobile, congregate meals, etc.). Other assistance includes Christmas meals and Thanksgiving turkey dinners. United Food Bank covers a wide range of cities and towns in AZ. The address is 245 South Nina Drive, Mesa, AZ 85210. Assistance programs include free USDA commodities for seniors, kids, and immigrants or migrant workers. This includes cheese, milk, bread, airy, and canned goods. There is also free drive thru and mobile pantries, boxes or groceries, and information on benefits. Also, federal government food assistance programs may be able to help an individual feed themselves or their family.

  • The non-profit gives referrals to local pantries and soup kitchens in the region of Eastern Maricopa County, Gila County, Pinal County, Southern Navajo County, as well as Southern Apache County. Call 480.926.4897

St. Marys Food Bank covers Phoenix AZ. Low-income and single mothers will get help. They help feed the homeless, migrants, unemployed and people with no money. Referrals are given, as well as access to free emergency food pantries in the region.

  • There are applications to Nutrition Assistance - SNAP, Senior Brown Bag / Food Box Distribution program as well as the summer meal and food service for students. Free food in AZCommunity Food Bank of Southern Arizona is a Feeding America Partner. They work with hundreds of churches, charities and non-profits in the region. Many people also volunteer at the charity. They feed the poor, people facing a crisis and more. Additional assistance programs include Summer Feeding Program, SNAP Outreach Program, Free Health and Nutrition Workshops and more. The goal is to offer emergency feed as well as help accessing long term benefit programs. The location is for Pima County, Santa Cruz County, and Cochise County.

  • People of all backgrounds, religions, and income levels can contact this food pantry for help. Fruits, vegetables, frozen foods, meals, and referrals are provided. There are additional free local Arizona food banks that may be in your area as well. Most of the programs offered here are focus on the homeless and people with extreme poverty. Yuma Community food bank is for the city. The location is 2404 E 24th St. Ste. A, Yuma, AZ 85365. Dial 928-343-1243. Some of what may be distributed includes free baby formula and applications for WIC. Mothers and the newborn may receive clothing and diapers too. The charity has both canned and fresh food for people in need as well as referrals to local charities.

 

 

 

Midwest Food Bank also has locations in Arizona. Though less known, they operate a warehouse and partner with many agency partners across Arizona. Those locations then pass out groceries, produce, personal toiletries and other stuff to people in need. The location list is https://midwestfoodbank.org/locations/arizona.

Yavapai County food bank is for Prescott, Prescott Valley, and the immediate area. The address of the pantry is 8866 E Long Mesa Dr, Prescott Valley, AZ 86314. Hundreds of seniors, low income families, and children receive hot meals, senior congregate meals, and home deliveries from the center. The number is (928) 775-5255. Call for canned goods or items like vegetables, bread, or bakery supplies.

Desert Mission is part of HonorHealth and one key program is the free food bank. It is based at  9229 N 4th St, Phoenix, AZ 85020. Call (602) 870-6062. The goal is to help people in Maricopa County, including migrants, with everything they need for health and nutrition. The center also partners with churches and charities. The non-profit provides those agencies groceries, surplus government commodities and more. Clients then need to apply at, and pick up the free groceries, from those locations.

Nourish Phoenix is part of the ICM Food & Clothing Bank. Call for a box of food, groceries, or clothing. It can be passed out for work, school, or in a crisis. The charity, also referred to as NourishPHX, also helps low-income families in Maricopa County apply for EBT cards or they give out free dog or cat food to seniors or the disabled who need t to care for their pets.
