Free food pantries in Ada County.

Residents of Ada County Idaho who need help in obtaining food can turn to a free pantry, church, or local charity organization. A number of centers throughout the region, including in Boise, provide people of all income and backgrounds with free or affordable groceries and food items. Many people who are receiving help from a pantry are doing so for the first time, and are requesting help due to an emergency, reduction in hours at their work, or a job loss.

The food banks and pantries will often offer resources and run programs that acquire food items from a variety of sources. Pantries will receive donations from canned food drives, direct purchase, or contributions from local charities and churches. Some of the centers also partner with soup kitchens in order to be able to provide hot meals to families living in poverty, including Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.

The Ada County pantries will then distribute the food and groceries to people who are in a crisis situation. Some residents that are struggling to make ends meet may also qualify. Volunteers work with some pantries, churches, and senior centers, and they will provide food or hot meals to people whose illnesses or disabilities make it difficult for them to leave home or shop on their own.

In addition to offering food, many centers can provide other forms of material assistance. This can include clothing, baby supplies, diapers, or they even run thrift stores. The locations provide extensive help to the needy and low income.
