While some of the clients of Society of St. Vincent de Paul are provided with emergency financial assistance for a short period of time, many others are given referrals to long term support. The SVDP in York County does try to provide free clothes, food, financial for bills or rent, and more. As far as short term help, this will usually only be offered once or twice and is meant to provide the family time for other options.

At this location there may be emergency assistance passed out for a period of time while the applicant is waiting on long term government benefits. The free pantry can provide food, groceries, hot meals, holiday food baskets, and personal care items. St. Vincent de Paul Family Clothing Center offers help to impoverished families, with a focus on children and those seeking a job. For those that qualify for assistance, parents and also their children will have the ability to select their own free clothing. Whether it is school uniforms, work boots for parents, backpacks, or a job interview outfit, the center may assist.

There are also free Warm Coats during the winter. There may be sizes ranging from infant to adult, and there will be coats, hats, caps, scarves, jackets, and blankets.  Qualifying families are given some sort of support, as resources allow.

For those bargain hunters, the SVDP thrift store is open to residents across the region of York and nearby counties. There are no income restrictions in place. Based on donations from the community, there may be jeans, Christmas toys, furniture, kitchen utensils and the like. The sales from the store also help pay for overhead at the non-profit.

All across York County, there are countless individuals and companies that donate time and goods as part of Thanksgiving and Christmas programs. There are Thanksgiving meals as well as Christmas toy drives at Saint Philip Neri Church. Of particular emphasis is on providing companionship to the elderly or a small gift to children.

 

 

 

 

The application list fills up quickly. As part of the process, the person will need to request the toys or clothing they need. Then, sponsors from the area will do their best to purchase new toys or gifts for the child. But there are no promises to receiving anything at this time of year. However St. Vincent de Paul will do their best.

The home bound can also sign up for holiday assistance. Those who sponsor a senior citizen will give them a hot Thanksgiving meal, a Christmas food basket and/or small gift. Society of Saint Vincent helps arrange this service.

Case management as well as the possibility of financial aid is provided by York County SC St. Vincent de Paul assistance programs Emergency Services. While a key focus is on supportive services, such as budgeting or housing stability case management, there may also be funds for everything from rent to utilities or motel vouchers. There are also referrals to homeless prevention in South Carolina.
