The non-profit does not just “give out” a vehicle for free but rather they provide money to help pay for a vehicle in combination with a loan, often at 0% in partnership with local credit unions. Salvation Army transportation programs in Wisconsin are available across the state. Car assistance programs are offered by Central Wisconsin Community Action Council, or CWCAC, as well. As the name implies, they focus on central WI including Jefferson, Columbia, and Adams County among others. Many are a partnership of private and public non-profit agencies working together to address transportation needs of disabled and low income individuals. Donations of quality used cars, trucks, and vehicles are solicited from the general community. Once the vehicle is repaired, it is inspected and it will be issued a certificate of road worthiness. Job Access Loan (JAL) is a government program that provides no-credit check loans, and the money can pay for a car for employment (or job training). This is available in all local Wisconsin communities at non-profits and social service offices known as W-2 Agency.
