Help from Catholic Charities in Thurston County.

A wide range of Catholic Charity assistance programs are available in Thurston County. Churches and the Catholic Charities organization provide short term relief (such as shelter and food) as well as provide access to social workers in an effort to stabilize families.

Homeless services, shelters, and a community kitchen are available. Dial 360-349-2808 for more information on this service. Clients can get a nutritious breakfast, lunch and/or a dinner every day of the week.  They also partner with local agencies such as the Salvation Army, and many of the meals are served at their feeding sites. Teens can receive meals, including summer snacks, at the Community Youth Services site.

Catholic Housing Services will assist low income families, seniors, and others with finding permanent apartments or homes to live in. A major focus is on income-eligible seniors in Thurston and Tumwater Washington. Assistance is also available for farm workers and their families. The goal is to assist people with finding safe and affordable homes to live in. The Catholic Charity phone numbers to dial are La Casa de la Familia Santa (360-736-0558), Senior Tumwater Apartments (360-352-4321, and also Villa los Milagros at 360-736-7275.

The Catholic Charities also operates the Drexel House. The center provides a 16-bed emergency men’s as well as studio apartments. A number of other transitional services are offered, including case management, information on long term permanent housing, and government housing. Additional units may be offered for disabled adults without children, Thurston residents with a history of chronic homelessness, and other adults in need. All assistance is tailored for the client and is specialized to your circumstance. All applicants must be both income-eligible and of course homeless. Call 360-753-3340.

Family and Youth Services are available. This includes adoption services, information on programs such as Head Start, information on energy bill programs, and maybe even affordable day care. The charity wants to ensure that people and low income families with children get the assistance they need.

It is often combined with the Family Preservation System. This Catholic Charity program helps facilitate care for the child/teen using an individualized team-planning approach. The services administered were all created in an effort to address and help families with multiple and complex needs, including youth and child behavioral challenges. All assistance is only offered from referrals. 360-878-8248 or 888-322-7156.

St. Mike’s Tikes Early Learning Center can be reached at 360-586-1585. This resource provides various types of care to children who range in age from 6 weeks to 12 years. All of the classes and curricula were created in an effort to meet the social, physical, cognitive, emotional and personal needs of each child.

Home Care for elders and people with disabilities will offer affordable non-medical assistance to people with disabilities and senior citizens who are living in their own homes. Services and training for caregivers is provided in multiple languages including Spanish, English, Vietnamese, Korean, Somali, Russian, and Cantonese. Staff can assist seniors and people in the Thurston County community with their basic needs, housing costs, food, and more. Bilingual staff are on site too. 877-870-1582

Meals and Wheels are also offered for seniors and the disabled. Catholic Charities works to provide free or low cost home-delivered meals to the homebound, senior citizens, and people who can't care for themselves. There are several congregate meal sites in Washington as well. Telephone: 360-748-0161

The elderly, disabled and seniors can also get help from volunteers. The so called Thurston County Volunteer Chore Services will try to help people remain independent in their own homes. Services and assistance programs are provided for free to those individuals who cannot afford to pay for items such as home repairs, chores, and transportation. 855-827-6803
